Well I was using my laptop at a coffee shop in York Lanes (school's mall), and after I was done I packed up as usual and laid my baby in her bag on a highrise chair about 3 1/2 - 4 feet off the ground.
I put on my jacket and was about to pick her up when the freakin' POS chair tipped and there went Celia crashing down to the floor.
Before she hit the floor she dinged off the foot rest of the table and then hit the floor.
My friends work at the coffee shop and saw what had happened. They all shuddered and stared in shock because they know how much I love my baby and how much of a freak I am with that kinda stuff.
I just stood there looking at my bag laying on the ground before me with my baby Celia in there, maybe broken, maybe in pieces, maybe completely destroyed.
I slowly picked up the bag and opened it up. Celia's still in one piece, so far so good. I thought to myself. Then I checked for rattling or pieces out of place. Everything looks good.
Wait, what's that!?!??!? The cdrom drive looks to be looking a bit out of place. It actually looks better. It's actually sitting flush with the unit instead of sticking out a bit at the front like before. Uh oh, did I jam it in and destroy it?
I start her up and find that the screen so far is not damaged. I log into windows and wait.
Something's wrong. Everything is so slow. Oh @#$@~!!!!! I check the SMART values in NHC. Everything's okay, but still I have a thing about trusting software. I reboot just to see if anything goes out of wack after the reboot.
Slow again logging into windows. ****, can't be a good sign, harddrive must have some bad sectors now.
I quickly ask the girls at the coffee shop for a music cd from the store's stereo, jam it into the drive and test the drive. What's this?!?!?!?! My drive will only go up to 16x~!~!~!~!~! Nero Drivespeed is reporting ONLY 16X~!~!~!
**** something's broken~!!!!
Wait, WTF, the cd is all scratched up. I get another one in perfect condition. Start her up, still 16x. 1@#%!@#$~!!!!!!!
Oh ****, I forgot to set the drive speed in Nero Drivespeed to 24x. Done. Copy files to desktop to check for speed. Nero Drivespeed reporting 24x, wait, I don't hear what sounds like a plane taking off. @#$@#$@ it's still broken.
WHAT'S THIS!?!?!? A plane taking off~!~!~!~!~! It's working, it's working~!!!!!!!
Screen is fine, no dents, no chipping, no scratches, nothing broken or loose, harddrive isn't clicking (still have to check for bad sectors), cdrom drive is working and fits better.
WOW did I poop myself when I dropped her, but everything seems to be okay so far.
Remind me to never EVER put her on top of a tall table or chair again.
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez,
Mike

Dude you must be a hopeless romatic in real life. I must admit i treat my m5n like ****. It weight only half as much but i throw that bag around and it gets its bangs and bumps. so far so good but i wouldnt do that to a 15 incher and frankly wouldnt recommend that with any notebook unless you are me and just looking to get it broken so that a new 13.3" z35 would be written off as an expense

Sorry to hear about the scare - I don't think I have dropped my laptop before, but I have had times where it would just not turn on and things like that. It isn't fun. Hopefully you find that everything is working right.
I suppose the good news out of this is that ASUS builds some tough notebooks. I have seen some notebooks fall and be done completely. Good Luck. -
baby celia ... OMG geek alert!
If the bag is cushioned well enough the only thing that might go bad is the HDD because of the G-shock.
good to hear that your celia is still in one piece -
i dropped my Z71v once. the lid cracked open, so i just snapped it back and everything was good as new =)
-
Hahahaha, yes I am a hopeless romantic and when it comes to toys like computers I am a total geek/nerd.
Baby Celia seems okay so far, I'm running a harddrive scan with HDTUNE right now.
It was in a bag alright, but it was in the Asus bag that comes with the Z70Va and that bag is not too great when it comes to protection as the corners of my baby Celia are already chipped; the silver paint that is, but just the corners from just transporting her around school and stuff.
Will report back after the scan is done, I'm crossing my fingers.
Cheers,
Mike -
Never had that happen to me. Sounds scary. I wouldn't want to loose my baby(haven't thought of a good name yet).

Mike. --Puts arm around.-- I think its time for an intervention!
lol, j/k. That's scary as hell. Sorry about the scare, glad everythings alright. Hope the HD isn't banged up to bad.
If you need someone to talk to, ya know where to find me. =) -
UPDATE~!!!!!
After 52minutes and 48seconds, I am glad to report that HDTune sees nothing but green. Everything's okay~!!!!!!!!
No bad sectors~!!!!! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet, but can I really trust it? Hrmm.
Haha just kidding, I'm so happy and relieved.
Oh man my dog just farted AGAIN~!!! What the hell did she eat!?!?!? I'm going to go throw up
Cheers,
Mike -
Lucky your LCD latch did not break off. My M6Ne's (same chassis as your Z70Va) latch broke off from falling off a low chair of about 40-50 cm. It was in a "ZeroShock" sleeve too.
-
Ouch tctic, maybe it fell at a bad angle or something.
I didn't get a chance to see how it fell, just heard what it hit.
Quick question for you guys about HD Tune.
In the Health tab it shows one row highlighted in yellow. I don't like this. What does it mean?
It highlights (05) Reallocated Sector Count: Current=199, Worst=199, Threshold=140, Data=2 and Status=Ok.
I'm worried -
My M6Ne dropped from one of the cargo shelves of those greyhound buses...(you know where you put your small carry-on bags into the upper compartments). That's about a 6 foot drop! It was in the bag... after the drop, it was still unfazed and working fine
No worries Mike! Sounds like everything's A-OKAY with Celia -
Jking worst case you get a new hard drive. -
Haha you jokers you.
Ouch Aurora, OUCH. I bet you screamed out a four letter word right then and there.
Thanks for the replies and I'm sure she'll be okay.
LoL metamorphical you're hilarious~!
Cheers,
Mike -
Umm, WTF~!?!?!?
Maybe this is unrelated, but my battery wear level just went to 11%~!?!?!?
What the hell's going on here? I haven't had this laptop for more than, umm, bought it in late Oct, early Nov.
What the @#$#@$@!
My capacity is now at 61215, was at 8% and 63 thousand something. I'm not a happy camper. -
Baby Celia + Shotgun + Shed = Laptop heaven.
-
all laptops go to heaven?
so now, worst case is change hd and batt?
hope celia's alritee, mike -
LOL
NEVER, how could I? You're horrible!@ -
Gawwwshhh... that was one scary story alright!
Glad it had a happy ending
Since you baby your baby so much, you seem to be the perfect person to ask...
dyou use anything special to keep dust and scratches off? What sleeve dyou use?
TIA! -
Mike, you are a real storyteller. I can actually see her falling in slowmotion. I'm glad everything is fine.
BTW Congratulations on your "deityness". 1K - not bad....
Cheers, -
I must cut down on my dose of real life, because I honnestly though you were talking about a *real* baby right untill you mentioned booting times.
Glad 'she's ok now, though -
Do you live on campus or off campus?
This is indeed insane- you treat your notebook like a baby. Treat it like an Adult and it will respect you
!
And Ice-Tea how do you take "I just stood there looking at my bag laying on the ground before me with my baby Celia in there, maybe broken, maybe in pieces, maybe completely destroyed." as a real baby? -
Heh. Yeah, maybe I beefed it up a bit for dramatic effect
-
heh point taken -
Yeah i cant tell you how many times not with my w2v though. Had it in my front car seat and i had to slam the breaks for something and the bag go flying to the ground in the car. i cringe everytime. I make sure now to put in on the floor every time.

Wow... you've had a tough few days - Celia falls and then your dog keeps farting? You just can't get a break!
I'm glad everything is A-O-K though. This makes me feel even more confident in my purchase of an ASUS laptop, as it seems they are built rather well and can withstand some dings. I'm curious also as to what bag you are using. I heard the Macbook bags are built well and should fit some ASUS models. I'll check that out today.
Happy about your happy ending, let us know if anything changes. -
Whoa old thread revived.
Seb...Hey there Yvonne~! Haha.
A-Lit, I'm just using the bag that came with my Z70Va. It's not the greatest bag, but it's not bad either.
I use a ShaggyMac that I had made to my specific measurements to keep the dust off the screen and I use the free Asus keyboard cleaner that I got as a gift for sending in my unit for repair to keep stuff out of the keyboard.
Scratches on the outside of the notebook just happen, but if you're careful enough in handling your notebook you should be fine.
SRD, I had the same thing happen to me ONCE and since then I put my baby FLAT on the floor of my car.
Cheers,
Mike
Edit:: Thanks for the kudos on my 1k ikovac. -
for a sec i thought u were talking about a real baby but..i had to remind myself..this is a laptop forum -_-

For some of us, it might as well be...
-
LOL jterp7, yeah man, she IS my baby.
I protect her and slap whoever touches her screen with their dang fingers.

same same

Mike, Seb, guys,
If you have a real baby and Celia (Yvonne etc...), does this count as bigamy?. What if you have Celia and Yvonne? Or If you have a male notebook like Jack and a female notebook like Celia, can they produce a baby notebook? Can it grow to become a fullgrown adult strong notebook?
I guess Mike has raised too many questions. And he did a good job because many people thought that was a real baby.
Cheers,
Ivan -
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!!!
ikovac you crack me up man.
OOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooh goodness I can't stop laughing.
I guess you're right though. Maybe we should try jacking two notebooks into each other and leave them powered up and connected through some terminal and leave them like that for a few days.
-
Yep im with you on the names too.
Mines called Alice. Alice the ASUS. And she is a great girl indeed... -
Wow old thread, just thought I'd reminisce
I wonder what happened to that big thread with notebook naming?
Hrmm
Had a really big scare today, just 4 hours ago.
