This is for a w5ae. i decided to try linux, but i didnt want to commit myself to it so i didnt install it on my main internal hard drive. I put it on an external usb hard drive. To avoid any potential install complications, and the possibility that it might automatically choose my internal HD to install on, i went into my bios and changed Auto detect for Hard drive to "Not installed". After i successfully installed linux on my external usb and played around with it a bit, i decided i didnt like it. However, when i went back to boot to my internal HD, i couldnt even find the option in my bios to turn it back on! I have tried loading defaults in bios, but it didnt work. When i boot from my external usb drive and load linux, oddly enough i can access my internal hD! Whats going on! I think i need to reflash my bios, can i do that from a cd?

ok hold on, you said you changed something in the BIOS, from Auto Detect for HD, put that back on, also, make sure your bios starts from the HD and not from any other device.

If that doesn't work, change the sequence to CD( ROM) and boot off the windows CD.

If none of those work, take out the HD carefully and put it back in...and hopefuly something would happen.

    Thanks,

i managed to get this resolved. I had to go under the specific section in the bios tree for IDE Hard drive and load defaults from there. Initially when i loaded the defualt settings for bios i used the option on the exit menu in the bios to do this, and that had no effect. i am not sure why that didnt work, but its working now.
