My faithful M6Bne's hard drive is dying. :(

This has been my main machine for the last three years. It has been heavily used for work and multimedia (me and the kids) but never abused. ;)

Anyway, I don't need a big hdd. I am running linux and 60-80 GB is more than enough for me.

Question?.. Can I put an SATA drive in it??..

Another thing, I don't mind doing the hdd replacement, BUT.. should I take this to the real ASUS technician (where in Toronto) ??

    Thanks,

    C.

What makes you think that it is dying? What are the symptoms?
Secondly, I would recommend at least a 5400RPM drive of around 100-160GB simply because that's the sweet spot right now, anything less or more you are paying at a higher $ per gig.

The M6N is a IDE / PATA drive, it cannot support SATA, it's not a choice.

Finally, about the technician since I'm also in Toronto, why don't you give me a holler just to help out a felllow NBR member? PM me if you want, I used to work at Staples as a Mobile/Notebook Technician. :D

Unfortunately not, M6Bne only compatible with PATA hard drive.

    Thanks for the answer guys.

Too bad about the SATA, I've seen some killer prices on laptops hdd (SATA). :(

D3X.. thanks for the offer. I will PM you for sure. (BTW, I am sure you are very competent Tech and if I were you I wouldn't mention I was a Staples technician.. lol.. ;) )

Its a breeze to install, open bottom, take out the caddy, take off screws on caddy, take out HD :p

And yea PATA HD prices are pretty high due to supply and demand, check NCIX for decent prices, or CC/etc. for local buys.

LOL it's not like the Futureshop or Best Buy techs are any better. Pretty much
the same class with A+ certs, but anyway I no longer work there anymore and nor that I really care.
