    Hi,

Just got my G2S two days ago, and from the minute I started the computer, I was dissappointed. I don't know if it's Vista or it's the computer but the harddrive keeps loading way after a startup (which by itself takes ages). It just won't lay off!

I read a couple of threads regarding uninstallation of unnesseccary programs, and took away most stuff, including Norton, but there still is a drag on the harddrive. I watched the RAM memory usage and it's constantly at 40-50% which I think is waaay too much.

So my question is, is this how it is for you people as well (i.e. it's Vista's fault or the bloatware)? Is there anyway to actually reduce this? Because I've heard that Vista is good at managing memory usage and such, but compared to XP, it's really really slow and doesn't seem to manage anything rather well. What adds to the problem is that everyone using G2S or G1S seem blown away by how fast the computer is, and I experience this slow-loading system...

try a clean install but only if you have the actual media (not a backup disk since it will still intall all the bloatware)

wich G2S do you have I think theres a couple of models out there and have heard horrrible stuff from the ones being sold at best buy...

If not then try to listen to the hard drive for a faint clicking ... if you do hear it it could mean a bad drive , have you contacted your resseller??? they are most likey going to be able to help you more

The hard drive should constantly access for the first few days after a clean install (or that is how I understand it). This has to do with Vista's Superfetch service that is learning what you do so that your normal tasks are performed faster. Also, Vista is indexing your files for faster searching. My G1S did the same thing for the first few days and then it quieted down. Also, in terms of RAM, some of that is bloatware, but even without the bloatware, Vista is loading things in RAM to make them faster to access (Superfetch). When a program needs more RAM, Vista will dump the other stuff so that your computer has the RAM it needs. When I had 3 GB of RAM, my computer used 30% of it when idle. Now I have 4 GB of RAM and my computer still is using 30% of it. It seems unorthodox, but my understanding it that it allows for greater efficiency. Here is a brief explanation of Superfetch by Mircosoft:

This is my understanding. Please, someone correct me if I am misinformed!
