    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has taken notes using the built-in mic on your Asus laptops? Is it sensitive enough to pickup the instructors' voice (there's a PA system)? Like in a big lecture hall/theatre?

It's an interesting concept... my guess is that it WILL pick up, however to listen to it, you'll have to crank the volume up to MAX afterwards ... and even then, it'll be hard to pick up.

    Do you go to UBC?

No... infact they're designed to remove background noise....... it's not going to work well if at all unless you put your notebook up on the professors desk.

Yep. You probably know the big lecture theatres there.

Aw man.. too bad. I was just thinking about this because this guy next to me had a m6ne. I was thinking since the PA system is really loud and my instructor has a pretty strong voice that the mic would be able to pick it up. Can't you adjust the sensitivity or something?

Edit: Wait a sec... it might have been AuroraS next to me! Yeah.. playing Diamond Mine! Hahhaha...

If you picked up a directional mic..... it'd work and pretty good too... but you'd look like a spy pointing a directional mic at the prof for a couple hours.

LOL! It wasn't me for sure... I havent brought my M6Ne to school in a while. Although I have seen others with an M6Ne...or M6BNe  ...I thought I was the only one...*sigh*

Which lecture hall were you thinking of in general?
Wesbrook100...Biol2000... Hebb Theatre? Those are some of the better ones I can think of. The best one is probably Wesbrook100... since there's carpet in there and it'll absorb some of the other sound, leaving the mic/sound system pretty loud.

Someone in one of my ECE classes is hard of hearing so the Prof wears a Mic that (i'm guessing) transmits to his laptop which then writes out what he is saying... I haven't seen what program he is using but it looks like it translates pretty accurately...

Woodward 2. It's pretty big in there. I think it can support at least 300 students if not more. Well, I was thinking if I just sit next to a speaker then I can get the mic to pickup what the instructor is saying. But then... some of the speakers are on the ceiling.

Ah Woodward... an old building... but comfortable.

Well, the best way is to try it out... you'll never know until you try!

WHAT!? No way! Microbi? You got in? Wait.. second year.. oh.. you still need to apply for 3rd year right? I didn't get in man :( It's hard.. they only accepted around 88 people this year into the 3rd year microbiology program.

Oh yeah I'm in the Science Faculty too :)

Wow it's that competitive? Well, my first year average was ~82%... I hope that it carries onto this year (or something higher)...that BETTER be enough to get in or else I'll go crazy!

Well, just make sure you have a backup just in case. I'm stuck on General Sciences because I didn't know that you had to apply for Cell Biology and Genetics going into 3rd year.

Cell Bi and Gen is competitive too. Because that's where all the people who didn't make it into Microbi are going :)

Edit: I just realized, that if you're 2nd year, I could've sold some of my books to you! hahaha..
