Has anyone ever done a model change through Asus warranty?

I am being offered a model change/swap from Asus because my G501VW could not be fixed after multiple attempts.

They say they will notify me with an offer, which I can accept or reject.

I'm wondering how much negotiation can be done to get the model I want.
Has anyone done this with asus?

You probably won't get a whole lot of leeway. You'll probably get what they consider the next iteration of the model that wasn't able to be repaired with as similar hardware as feasible. As in, you might get a slight GPU bump if they go that route. Personally, I'd reject anything that gets me less performance than what I had paid for originally but I doubt they do that.

Yeah, my VW has thunderbolt3, 6700hq, gtx960m. thin aluminum chassis. Pretty good looking.

There's nothing close that has thunderbolt 3 except the GL502vm, which has a faster gpu, but a cheap slightly thicker uglier plastic chassis. I'm not accepting anything without thunderbolt 3.

But primarily, I want something that can do a triple display. Asus royally f****d up the 501vw because it can't do triple display due to some hardware glitch.

they want to replace my lightweight 501vw with a g752VL 17 inch BRICK.

    double the weight.
    gimme a break.

Looks like I may have to take a refund option.

Asus warranty states that they will replace your broken product with something equal or superior.

What they really try to do is screw you on specs to minimize their loss.

I already mentioned, if you had a thin and light notebook, they might try to offer you a heavy brick as a replacement.
If you have thunderbolt port, they might try to offer you something without thunderbolt.

It's like if they replaced your gtx860+hdmi+dp with a gtx950+vga-only. It's not truly equal or better when you're downgrading from hdmi+dp to a vga port only. (extreme example)

Something that is truly equal or superior might be much more expensive, so they are very reluctant to offer it to you.

I'm still battling Asus on my warranty. I had an IPS screen with thunderbolt, and they want to offer me something with a TN SCREEN and no thunderbolt as a replacement.

How is this equivalent or superior?
    Would you fight it?

There is no reason to take it. Obviously you want something with a 960m or better and a thunderbolt port, that is what you bought the laptop for. What kills me is this is a laptop that is one generation old, its upgrade JUST came out. Your telling me they have no refurbished laptops available? Have them credit you the cost of the laptop and buy the 502vm. ^^

Oh I know they must have refurbs available. The GL502VM has been out for a few months, and I'm sure enough customers have returned this notebook to retailers to send back to Asus.
But they're trying not to give it to me without a fight. I asked them for the 502vm, and they countered with the 502vt, with its TN screen and lack of thunderbolt 3.
    Are you f***** kidding me?
I wrote them back a long diatribe about how they chose their replacement offer.

They think I'm dumb and won't argue with them about Thunderbolt 3.
And they're trying to make me forfeit TB3 for a regular usb-c port.

What pisses me off more than anything is that Asus can't fix my G501VW (or any other G501VW, since the whole lineup is defective), and now they want to trade with me something that is partially inferior.
I would much rather keep my G501VW over any crap they offer me in exchange, but I will not continue to use a broken G501VW that can't connect 2 external monitors.

When Asus is entirely at fault, Asus should put in a good faith effort to give the customer something fully equal or superior, regardless of cost. Not something partially inferior and partially superior.

If they credit me the cost of the laptop, I don't have enough to buy a new 502vm. This is why i want them to send me a refurb 502vm.
I got a once in a lifetime deal with my G501VW, and a similar deal with this many features just can't be found anymore. I am not spending more out of pocket to get something equivalent to the G501VW.
I wouldn't have to consider buying a new laptop if they got my G501VW working. They caused this mess.

My dilemma is that the successor to my G501VW will not be released until Nvidia releases the gtx1050 for notebooks, and by that time, my warranty will have expired.
So I'm trying to get Asus to send me something equal or better right now, before my warranty is over.

link626, this is no consolation, but - welcome to the World Of Asus Pain.

If Asus was based in the U.S., I'm fairly sure that it would have been shut down long ago under the RICO anti-racketeering statutes. Asus is just that - a racket. And a scam.

Asus products = a bunch of cheap, sketchy (and defectively-designed) components wrapped up in shiny, expensive, stylish, and usually worthless packages.

I just realized that here in usa, california, we can sue Asus in small claims court if they don't abide by their warranty.

Their warranty terms will be scrutinized by the judge, and chances are that Asus won't even show up in court, so you'll win by default.

Loser pays court costs and other expenses that plaintiff files for.
