It was spoken in the same breath as the Samsung 11, touted as the thinnest. I tried my due diligence to check out the article I read, but it's not on the radar of resources I have available. Google hasn't caught up to it, I guess, either...and I can't believe that.
But, they published it.

... the A8 was announced at CeBit this week. Asus doesn't release boatloads of information on new systems at shows... they just bring what they're been working on and put up a placard of whatever specs are finalized. In other words....
Right now, this is all you're going to find.. and I suspect it's all you'll find for some time. Decent notebook, but too wide of a bezel for me... even with the camera at the top. Dimensions are about 13.4" x 9.4" x .75"...

Good! That was used in Anandtech's review from CeBIT but I had no idea it was the 14-wide; I was wondering the correlation of all those model numbers I'd never seen before. That tells you something, for sure. Be attentive.

So ProPort, guess that means the new model will be the W7j...the white one...might be the small form factor 12 or 12 wide?

The W7 is a 13.3" widescreen..... I think anyway, that it'll come to the states in Black so not it can seperate itself from the W5 more..
Here are some of my pictures on the A8... I forgot I had them, but apparently they've been in on one of the site's folders and I didn't know it.... I hope this "helpful"

Just so everyone knows.... all of the "new" designs for this year are going to have this new synaptics touchpad on them... there's no "real left and right click buttons.... I know it looks like an Apple touchpad, but you've got left and right virtual clicks. Any one who's ever double touched the touchpad sort of knows the feeling that would have to make a click... but from my understanding, if you touch once to the left side below that line... it's a "left click" and if you touch once on the right side it would be a "right click"..... May seem weird now, but that's where everything is moving to and it's one of those things that Asus will probably have out before most companies, but it'll be the standard this time next year.
... oh and this notebook is shinny..... and the numbers don't seem to add up to the pictures because looking at the side of my W3 right now... it looks about the same height as the A8 here... -

oh my is that dvi out i see? This is going to be a very popular one!
-
wow 5 usb ports! :O
-
Now that's going to mess up the legally blind/blonde peeps. So you say that's what Apple's been up to? Virtual touch pads...but you have to "see the line."
Before you buy, if you have fat fingers, you may wanna second thought that one. -
-
Nice, DVI out! One last thing, what is the weight and dimension for the A8jf?
Do you have the specs for the W7? The picture from the notebookreview thread is very blurry.. -

yeh the pics are nice and all but wouldn't this compete with the z63f/j and the w3j? Sounds like Asus is adopting the GM compete against itself axiom.

.. that's why the A8 most likely won't come here....... I'll put money on it going to Canada though.... -
So it's going to be tapping in order to left and right click? If it's the same as touchpad tapping I'm skeptical if it'll work well, the drivers are gonna have to be really good and settings customizable. I know I can't use only tapping the touchpad for left click, too many times it doesn't register and it just gets annoying. I'll reserve my opinion on the new touchpad till I actually try it of course.

it's got to be different in some way..... but we'll see.

Since this z35f, if it comes here in quantities will be Core duo plumbed and that means it's "'plug 'n play" with Core duo-2 (aka merom)...guess that means for another ~$200 to 400...we can have a 64-bit machino later in Q4 using this platform w/ its current mobo? (of course, if the z35f actually exists
)
-
Where is the battery? The back is full of ports...
-
Could be in the front, besides the speakers, like the M6 battery
-
Couldn't really read the specs sheet, what graphics does this one have?
-
I was on the Australian site and there're three models (my best recollection). One is the 945GM, one is the 7400? nVidia , and there's an ATI?

Well, found the page. Scroll down. -
A8Ja is Radeon X1600
A8Jc is NVidia GeForce Go7300
I got it from http://www.asus.com/products3.aspx?l1=5&l2=26&l3=270&slname=A8%20Series
and I am just wondering what will be the deference between w3j -
Me too! It has a camera.... I MUST get this!!
I just hope its in Canada by May ...
I'll pray.. and proportable if you have any more details... feel free -
Forget the A8Ja/c, as far as I can tell, the A8Jm has a GeForce Go7800.
I've never seen one of those in anything smaller than 17". To fit it in a 14" widescreen is impressive.
Does the A8 series have swappable batteries (like the W3 series)? -
Sorry, but the A8Jm is packing a Go 7600, not a 7800. Still a pretty hot graphics card for a 14" though.
-
lol with an aj8 carrying a 7800 ... battery and heat issues must be tremendous
-
Will we get the A8J or equivalent in USA? The Z63F would do it for me now, don't need the graphics card but the DVI is hot and love that seemless touchpad
-
anyone have any more info on the A8jm which has the 128mb go7600??
i havent seen this high of graphics card in a 14" laptop.
if so then this laptop is worth a look for when i buy my laptop in the summer...
just hope it comes to USA.
also how good is the built quality of the A series compared to something like V6j?
Has anyone heard of a new ASUS 14 A8jf?
