I have a G51-RX05 and was thinking of dual booting Windows and OSX. (please refrain from any OS flames).

I just want to know if anyone has tried it or is currently doing it and what their experience was like.

    Oops. Did not see that...

But I wonder why were not allowed to discuss it. It is not illegal to install OSX on PC based hardware.

I just spoke with Apple today about this. At first they tried to suggest that installing OSX may not work on a PC (which is true, some hardware will be incompatible). But then I got him to admit that it is in fact not illegal to install it. It is simply in violation of the EULA which means it will not be supported by Apple. Otherwise it is perfectly legal to install OSX on any kind of machine if you can get it to run. The ONLY thing you lose is support.

So I'm not sure why there would be a rule against talking about something that is perfectly legal to do.

It is illegal because to do so, you must use a "cracked" version of the software. a version of the software that has been illegally modified and distributed to be capable of running on non-apple hardware.

Well, it goes a little bit beyond that. It is true that violating a EULA is not a criminal violation. It is, however, a civil violation, as you're breaking a contract that you have with Apple, so it goes beyond the "not supported by Apple" bit. You're actually agreeing that they have the right to sue you in civil court. So no, that's not the only thing you lose. ;)

You can install osx using just the retail disc with no modifications.

I believe you may need a bootloader that helps the PC to recognize the install disc.. but you do not have to illegaly alter the OSX code ala Psystar or earlier Hackintosh methods.

that is only with some very specific hardware which is similar to actual apple hardware, in MOST cases you are using illegally modified software.

It is in violation of forum rules, and that is going to be the end of discussion.

According to Apple's EULA you're not allowed to instal OSX on non-Apple hardware. No matter how big the "violation" is it's against the forum rules as already being stated.
