Greetings,
I have a relative overseas who has purchased an ASUS-x501a laptop with Intel processor and it came with FreeDos and no optical drive. We are trying to install win 7 from a USB stick but it cannot even see the stick so we can boot from it.
I've researched and googled, and a couple of solutions were to enable "CSM" option in BIOS, but I found this is only an option on the AMD model and not the Intel model, which we have.
It seems that this is a more advanced UEFI bios. I've looked through all the bios options and I just cannot see why it won't see the stick. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Legacy BIOS and UEFI BIOS are different. You'll need to disable Secure Boot (and/or UEFI if you want the legacy BIOS instead). Here is a guide on how to disable from within the Windows 8 GUI:
