Having a very tough time trying to install Win 7 from USB stick

Greetings,

I have a relative overseas who has purchased an ASUS-x501a laptop with Intel processor and it came with FreeDos and no optical drive. We are trying to install win 7 from a USB stick but it cannot even see the stick so we can boot from it.

I've researched and googled, and a couple of solutions were to enable "CSM" option in BIOS, but I found this is only an option on the AMD model and not the Intel model, which we have.

It seems that this is a more advanced UEFI bios. I've looked through all the bios options and I just cannot see why it won't see the stick. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

Did you already try disabling Secure Boot?

 

I did not find that option in the BIOS screens. I looked all over. I'm beginning to think this laptop cannot boot conventionally like old Bioses but things must be prepared for UEFI bios.

 

Legacy BIOS and UEFI BIOS are different. You'll need to disable Secure Boot (and/or UEFI if you want the legacy BIOS instead). Here is a guide on how to disable from within the Windows 8 GUI:
