    Where to start?

This problem first started this morning.

First:I turn on the computer and go to a few websites, then the computer freezes lets me do one more thing and then it freezes letting me move the mouse, but that is it, I when I move the cursor over the trackbar it has the loading sign. So i just press the power button and turn it off.
Second time:Same as the first one but this time I press Control-Alt Delete, and i get a black screen with my mouse.
Third time: Come back from work and I play COD4 i playing online, it slows down lags (not internet lag this is in video lag which should not happen with this GPU at 1280X760) then I get to a part, and it freezes this time I can hear a helicopter, I see the game but I cannot move around. Control-Alt Delete and I get the black screen again with the cursor.
Fourth time: I get back now seriously knowing I have a problem, I go and do a anti-virus scan 3/4 of way through it restart the computer (I changed the setting for a system failure to a restart).
Fifth time: It did it again when I was writing this.

It seems like right before it happens it slows down like crazy then goes out. I seriously think it is hardware. :( :(  And it is scaring me.

Something wrong with your GPU I bet. What are your temps?

59C, BTW i just noticed that a plastic cd case (with no CD) was under that round metal air intake on my laptop. Could that have been the problem?

I doubt it could be that. Was that the CPU or GPU temp? I'm asking for the GPU ones.

That was GPU, Both CPU's are are at 51C.

BTW it did it again so it is not the plastic cd case.

    Thanks for the fast response.

Should I go ahead and reinstall windows? It looks like this is not going to work. Unless there is a diagnostic hardware checking software out there.

if it still happens then try a new video driver. it could be bad memory too. try taking one out and using it for a while. then do the other one.
also try diskcheck to test for bad sectors.
    the try you recovery discs.

Yes this sounds more like a software problem to me. Bad application, driver run amok, or even malware are possibilities.

Hardware problems usually (not always!) manifest themselves either as (a) bluescreen or (b) complete and utter freezes of the computer, no mouse moving at all.

Yeah I reinstalled windows, last night and everything is running smoothly now.
The night before I downloaded a new patch for a mod I had on BF2, and I believe that was the problem. It first started out when I was watching a video on a foreign channel. But I doubt that was the problem.

    Thanks for the help!
