So my G1's Seagate hard drive died recently and I temporaly replaced it with a sencond HDD. I later emailed Asus Portugal about replacing the Seagate, which they will, but I have to send them everything (laptop, box, etc).

I asked if I could send in just the hdd, which they said coundn't be done. Proper Asus support.

I gave them the my lappy's serial number, can't they just replace the goddamn hdd a let me keep my very expensive notebook. I don't want to send this expensive laptop all the way from Portugal to Spain and spend 15 odd days without a lappy, just so I can get a new hard drive.

So is Asus like this elsewhere or just in my sorry excuse for a country? lol

Well I would think that you wouldn't have to send everything in to get a replacement hdd, but it is their warranty program which means you have to abide by their terms or replace the hdd yourself. Policy... =(

Well every laptop i've ever had the HD die on had the same policy actually. HD died on my old Apple iBook and I had to send it in (though in all honesty it had to be completely disassembled to do so).

So i'm guessing this is a pretty standard policy as friends have had to do the same with various other brands.

Hope it gets straightened out for you! :)

its just overseas, i belive the same applies to all overseas rma and warranty issues, it is very very different in the states. In the states they do allow advanced replacmeent no problems

Asus is still lame. When I bought G1 I waited nearly a month because it was out of stock every where.. Now another 15 odd days and a round trip to Spain just so they replace a stupid hard drive. I feel like I should be compensated or something. You don't mess with a man's lappy Asus! lolex :D
