The specs for the game say 1.8-2.4Ghz (but not what chipset - PIV? Core Duo?), ATI 9000 or better (x1650, check), and 2GB RAM (check). The Demo gets real jumpy and is pretty much unplayable once you go to the outdoor area after the 'camp', but (AFAIK), didn't run any kind of performance test during or after the install. Most graphics settings defaulted to high or very high.
I'd like to get this game, and I can live w/o maxing out the graphics, but does the production game perform better than the demo? Anyone happily running it on a W3j?
Thx.

Definitely, the demo is there for people to test out the game and report back any bugs. The final copy released will be free of these performance bugs and should run much better.
The cpu requirements listed are in terms of P4 speed. And since your hardware is much better than the required specs, the game should run fine. Maybe turn down some settings and you'll even run the demo well. -
Thanks. I wasn't sure exactly when the demo was released, and if it was a real 'demo', or 'demo/beta'. Sounds like the latter.
BTW, whatever happened to the Vista Performace Score thing? I thought that was supposed to be on every Games for Windows certified game? -

The final version has tons of bugs, wait at least a month before purchase.
If you want I can go into detail but I was royally pissed after spending 50$ on a game that was actually buggier than the beta version whe I was a tester. I am now telling everyone to not get this game.
It has sisues with multi-core processors, horrendous memory leaks, dx10 mode is broken and likes to stay broken even after reinstalling (see my post in the game discussion), terrible glitches with the hellrifts (instances within instances but there is no loading screen and you can often get stuck in a perpetual state of entering and exiting the hellrift) , and just all out random crashes.
I have spent 2 minutes either restarting from a glitch or fixing a bug for every minute I played on the retail version. It was maybe 10 minutes of playtime per 1 minute of restarts/bug fixing for the BETA.
Again, if you want more detail I can go on.... -

I like the game its a good time killer, it definitely has bugs and in its current state feels more like beta than a full release. You dont HAVE to pay monthly to play but you lose alot of stuff if you dont so...
I say play the demo, see if you like it and then think more on it.
The demo didnt turn me on abit, beta got me to like the game tho when you can plan your character and get into the high lvl stuff. -
Works fine on your x1600 for sure, my laptop can handle it at max resolution and mid settings.
-
I'm not in a hurry to get the game, so I may wait for the next patch (I think there was one already released?). DX10 issues don't worry me, since my x1600 doesn't do DX10 anyway (right?). Still playing World in Conflict atm, but was thinking I'd get Hellgate for my brother for Xmas and we could play together. -
You don't have to pay to play online. If you do, you get more "features", but these additional "features" are virtually non-existent at this stage. I play it, but am not subscribing until they polish the game substantially and make it worth my while to subscribe.
I enjoy the game - its an action RPG that doesn't require you to commit hundreds of hours (days?) of playtime to feel like you're progressing. It's obviously modelled off Diablo (a lot of the same team), but it's got nothing like Diablo's polish or soul (no pun intended).

A game I highly recommend to try out is Phanasy Star Universe Its the same kind of game but much much much more "polished" Phantasy Star Online has been one of my favorite games since dreamcast and dial-up days. Several games have come out since and the newest one is Phantasy Star Universe.
Same kind of game, run around in real time and kill stuff for loot/xp but so much more than that.
Always adding new quest/items. Better graphics (IMO) much better soundtrack/sounds, lower system requirements.
I got burned out on it when it first came out, but playing HGL has made me miss the game alot so I think I will install it and play thru 1 player too see if I want to go back to the online game.
Keep in mind it has a full fledged RPG one player story mode, play thru that first since its a great game (worth the buy just for this easily) and if you liked it then you can go online to play. -
A friend is a using a Acer Travelmate 8104 w/X700 for this game and have no problems. The game is definitely more stable in XP vs Vista and DX9 vs DX10. There are still some bugs but the latest patch on the test server seems to have addressed the most serious ones.

The newest test patch .5 is supposed to have better performance indoors in DX10 than in DX9. I have not tried it out yet and since its only "indoors" It wont do me much good.

i'm sure Bill Roper could use Blizzard's QA department right about now :]

Well, went out and bought the game this morning. Can't even get it to recognize the DVD in Windows Vista to install it. As usual, EA Support is pretty much non-existant. WIC, the last game I bought, installed and played fine, and still does. Anyone have any ideas?

Try it in a different computer, check if it is a bum disk.

I don't have another PC atm. The only other machine I have only has a CD drive. I did take the first disk back and exchanged it, but same thing with the new one.
Why is it that I only seem to have trouble w/ EA games? The last 3 games I've bought over the last year or so (Company of Heroes, Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, and World in Conflict) all installed and played fine. The last time I had this much trouble was with BF2, which installed, but wouldn't play for the longest time (had to wait through 2-3 patched before EA finally fixed it).
