Do any lights turn on? Hard drive activity? Fan spinning? Does it do anything when plugged into an external monitor?

that's the problem. before my screen would go blank sometimes. but i fixed it. although it's temporary and still work.

Unplug it and take the battery out, let it sit for a couple of minutes. I think that model may have a reset hole on the bottom that's labeled >o<
I found a pic, I think it looks like there's a reset hole at the bottom middle. Try poking it for 10+ seconds.

Is there any pattern to it? Does it turn on normally at all? You said sometimes the screen goes blank? That must mean you get at least some status LEDs, but your fan doesn't turn on?
There's a disassembly guide here if you want to get dirty: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/260993-asus-m50sv-disassemble-guide.html
Try removing one stick of RAM at a time, and remove the hard drive, etc. to rule out those components failing. If that doesn't do it, check the motherboard cables and make sure they're all well seated.
If it's sporadic it could point to some kind of short, sometimes there will be dust or something touching a component that can do this, but it's more likely to just be a motherboard problem in that case, like a bad capacitor or voltage regulator, etc. -
Do you have a multi metre? can you check to see that the power supply is actually giving the computer a charge? If you get NOTHING that's my first guess.
