It's apparently overheating and shutting down. They supposedly did a 24hr. burn in which seemed likely since the OS was in setup mode when turned on. It got through setup fine, then shutdown by itself when all the files were copied. I then started it back up again and it shutdown much quicker this time. The 3rd time I started it, it shutdown in less than 30 seconds. I've called ProPortable 3 times today with no response. Am I screwed or what? Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks.

This sounds pretty bad, I would guess that it is over heating due to poor cpu instal, perhaps they forgot thermal grease...thus computer auto turns off to prevent frying of your cpu. You should not have to put up with this sort of problem. I would take it back and asap and get them to fix it. Just keep callin till they respond

    Man that sucks...

Have you verified the temp of the CPU? What's it at? Fan operating?

If you're posisitive it's a heat issue, you could probably solve the problem with some Artic Silver. Mind you, dissasembling the notebook that much is probably going to void your warranty... Hopefully ProPortable gets back to you!

So, thanks for the replies Underpantman and radeon_x. It turns out [ :D]looks very embarrassed[ :D]that I, being a desktop man for the last decade or so, didn't realize that the AC adapter was not plugged in all the way. Ergo, the battery was dead which consequently made the system power off quickly and unexpectedly. The guys at ProPortable did get back with me. They were on some sort of offsite for the day. So, closing, I'd like to call myself a schmuck one more time, and leave it at that.

If it is overheating, have you first checked to see if the fan was running? I'm assuming the CPU is readily accessible, is it possible when they put in the CPU, they forgot to connect the FAN? If it's working, it could be just a contact problem with the heatsink as others have suggested. Get some thermal paste and see if it helps.
