I was on wirelessly this morning. When I came back, the connection was out. I looked on the icon that is the tornado funnel icon in the lower right hand corner for wireless and it said "no supported wireless adapters available in the system.
I have an Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG adapter.
The same thing happened yesterday so I went to the device manager and found a red X on it and the other network adapters (Bluetooth, etc.). So I enabled all of them and the problem was solved. I have no idea how they got turned off. No one uses this laptop but me.
So when I came back this morning, the same thing happened. I went to the device manager -- no red x's on anything. I tried to disable and re-enable the Intel but the device manager kept freezing so I couldn't do it.
SO I tried to get on the internet directly through my broadband connection to get help, and the ASUS would not. I kept getting the error message that the specified destination was not reachable.
I checked out my DSL and it works fine. I hooked up my other laptop (an HP) and I can get on the internet quite easily or I wouldn't be able to write this message.
I've been using a trial version of Kaspersky Internet Security because I've been tired of using spybot. I don't like the Kaspersky and I was planning to do a trial of ESET's new Security system since I've used its NOD32 until recently.
Sometime in the middle of the night last night Kaspersky said it could not reach its updates. I didn't notice until now -- but I was on the internet this morning. I am running a scan of my computer now with Kaspersky but it has not found anything though it is only half way finished.
Can anyone help me?

Are you on windows XP or Vista? Secondly, have you tried rebooting the operating system? Have you tried hitting the wireless hotkey on your Z70va? Sorry for the stupid questions but just trying to figure out the problem.

Try hitting F8 on Windows Start up and do a "Last known Configuration", not sure as to how the device or driver stopped working all of a sudden.

Thank you for the response. I have to stop fiddling with it for the moment. Right now the laptop is almost impossible to shut down -- it freezes in the midst of doing that. Even pressing the power off button didn't work for a bit.
I also tried to get on by setting up a dial-up connection -- I got an error message that way too. It said another device was using that port(? can't remember the term.) But as far as I know nothing is using it -- but I can't say that for sure _- I am not sophisticated enough to figure that out on my own.
Also when I open "my computer", it registers the DVD I last had in the drive. during all this, I took out the DVD. But it still says the DVD is in there. I even tried turning on the DVD player and have it show "no disc" and still my computer listed the name of the DVD. I have shut down and turned bavk on the laptop several times now.
I fear the worst. I really hated Kaspersky because it signaled absolutely anything and every thing as a potential threat, even my own actions. I could not tell from the info it provided whether there was a real threat or not -- I had to guess.
I even tried turning Kaspersky off. That didn't help either. It will be a while before I can spend time on this. I fear the worst. -
try this, go to device manager from control panel or type "device manager" in the start search bar in start and hit enter the device manager should popup, look for "Network Adapters" and click the + sign to expand. See if any of them has an "!". If it has it means ur driver isnt installed or its disabled, right click it and select enable, if it doest have, try disabling it, reboot and than enable again.

ohh ok..about the cd drive, do the same go to the device manager, expand the "DVD/CDROM drives" and check if there is an "!". And do this:
NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.
1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
And it should work. Many ppl followed this steps and they got theirs fixed. -
That's a good suggestion and if you wade through my first post, that was the first thing I tried. There are no x's or any indications that the boards are disabled (as there were yesterday). And I tried to disable and reenable the wireless adapter and all that happened was that the device manager froze after I clicked on to disable. I tried that several times and the same thing happened yesterday. -
ah i missed that part sorry, anyway i posted ( just above ur post ) the way to fix ur cd drive, many ppl has used the same steps and they all got the cd drive fixed.
