Hi guys I'm new here with a bit of a problem. Here's the specs of my new laptop:

    Asus M50VC-AS001C
    Intel® Core 2 Duo Montevina Processor T 8400 (2.26 GHz )
    SATA HDD 320 GB ( 5400 RPM)
    15.4" (WXGA+) Colour Shine (1440 x 900)
NVidia GeForce 9300 with 512 MB VRAM
    Blu-Ray Combo
    4096 Mb (2048 x 2) DDR II 800
Intel WiFi Link 5100 ( AGN)
Video Camera built-in (1.3 million pixels)
    In-Built Bluetooth
    Microsoft® Vista Home Premium 32bit

    These are my WEI scores:

    Processor 5.2
    Ram 5.9
Graphics Windows Aero 3.5 < why is this so low?
    Gaming Graphics 4.8
    Hard Disk 5.5

So my base score is only 3.5 despite the others being so high. Is there something wrong with my graphics card?

your GPU just isn't very powerful - the 9300 series is Nvidia's second-lowest tier in terms of performance.

you have a very decent 4.8 score in the gaming section-why wpuld you ever bother with the low aero score? Anyways why would yopu bother with the Vista score at all? Your RAM got the max available score and most likely would even exceed it and the score is not nearly as accurate as the other benchmark programs...
hope this cheers you up :)

True but it shouldn't be that low.

Try reinstalling drivers or maybe installing new ones.

Most cases ive seen the Aero score is always .1 higher than the gaimg score. Interesting case here.

thanks for the advice so far. i'm downloading 3dmark 06 but in the meantime i ran 3dmark01 and got a score of 13415 which is only 4000 points higher than my other laptop which is 4 years old. i dunno if that means anything with it being such an old test

its a shame that everything else about the laptop is so good except for the graphics card

Infio and score on the 9300 - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9300M-GS.9452.0.html

Its a low end 9 series what can u expect? What did your old laptop have? The way things work in the gpu world a 7600 is better than a 9300 unless u need directx 10 and 4.0 shaders.

Higher series = better technology, higher sub number equals better peformance within that series and overall.

9700 is OLD school thats near the minimum requirement for doom 3 and fear. That cards been replaced by like 5 generations of radeons.

3dmark 06 is a good test of modern games 01 tests for what was new tech at the time. 06 will show where the radeon 9700 fails and what the geforce 9300 does have to offer.

9300 is not a bad card for what it is its definitly better than the intel 4500. Note book check puts the Mobility 9700 at 280 points in 06, even my 6100 laptop does better then that and its a pos .

    9700 - http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-9700.2169.0.html

You might need todo a driver sweep and get a good set of drivers going.

Thats some nice info there thanks. The laptop fortunately wont be my primary source of computer games playing so i'm not too worried about it. i'll bear in mind next time about how the graphics cards series works so i can get a bit more from games

Don't fret on WEI scores. It's an extremely poor performance benchmark and not reliable at all.
There is nothing wrong with your GPU. The 9300M you have is an entry level GPU and if you compare it to other notebooks with the same GPU, you're getting about the right Aero score.
