Help, I split alcohol on my Asus G51VX-RX05 (Yuengling). Not my fault my friend didn't finish his can and some of it tipped on accident right on my lower left keyboard.
I blow dried it and everything, but it sometimes make a static noise when it's running.
OC'ed it before the spilt and I checked the temps, still running normally.
Is there anyway I can fix it? Will BB still give me a replacement? I only had it for a week and I'm loving this laptop! Grr.
Never will drink and play on this laptop again.

I would have left it off for a minimum of 2 days to dry. If it is beer, there is no doubt some organic compunds remaining on your components. I would immediately power it down, unplug it from the wall and the battery, and let it air out for a day or two...

Seandude is correct, in addition to that I would get some electronic contact cleaner, and clean under the keyboard assuming you are comfortable with doing it.

sigh, a couple of moments ago it gave me the BSOD and now it won't boot up anymore.. hopefully BB will give me an exchange with another one. I only had it for a week and I still have the 2 week receipt to exchange it.
I had everything OC'ed on that laptop the way I wanted with a good temp too. Now I gotta start all over on Crysis.

I highly recommend you "hide your tracks", of course that is assuming your BB has a "Geek" that knows a motherboard from a surfboard...

How can I hide my tracks? Like reformat the HD? I would if i can get it to boot up tomorrow after I come home from school. Well I just checked BB.com and they have my laptop in stock in my local BB and a couple of days ago they didn't have it in stock. So what do you suggest I tell them? That my buddy left his beer can half way full and it split on my laptop, so can I get a exchange, because I still have the 2 week receipt and the 1 year warranty?

No I meant clean it out... the alcohol i mean. if you can clean it thoroughly, i would tell them it just shut off. They will try to turn it on and when it does not, that is as far as they can go and AFAIK are forced to give you a new one. I do not condone lying though, thats up to you.

Since I didn't buy the accidental warranty, what should I say to exchange it to them? That my laptop just shut off and won't turn back on?

Forgive me, but this is the ethical side of me talking. Best Buy is not obligated to repair or replace your system because alcohol was spilled on the keyboard. Tell your friend to compensate you instead of trying to lie to Best Buy.

Well that's not really helping me out eh? It was an accident. I just read that page about the accidental damage and that sucks that BB doesn't do that. Well this is the first time it happened to me. Not sure what BB will do.

Sh*t happens. You can try to pull a fast one on them if you want. Just don't let their nerdiest Geek Squad agent take a look at it.

    Yup, I'll try. That sucks that this happened to me tonight, I just ordered a Zalman NC2000 cooler for my G51. -_-;

    To Cltpilot:
Yes, I love that keyboard to. Now it's gone with the scent of alcohol! By the way do you work at CLT airport? I fly out from there all the time to California.

When we went to Best Buy to get my G51 they had a few different warranties available for purchase. The basic warranty didn't cover spill damage, but the other two did. If you didn't get one of those then it might be bad news.

it's not about helping you or not , i think its about how much care do you give to your notebook .. try to make that the warranty cover you, if not i think you should talk with your friend to cover the damage.

I don't want to make an scene of this, but an admin gave me a sanction because i could't find the rules and post something about a game crack and here someone want advices to cheat BB warranty ? xD

That's true, I will decide what I will act upon tomorrow. I will probably call BB first and see if I can get a replacement.

I think all of you have been drinking.

It was his friend's drink. This reminds me when I made that Red Bull Cocktail and somehow tore apart my GPU.

Uh.. no don't imply that I need alcohol to drink, because of problems like that. You're trying to say that it's an excuse for me to stop drinking? Please I was talking about the laptop not about drinking alcohol. I know how to moderate my drinking ability and don't go on telling me what I should do. Thanks.

I just airline out of the CLT airport several times per month to wherever the private jet I fly is at. Yesterday I airlined CLT-IAD (Washington Dulles) then picked up Thurston and Lovey (yea, I'm that old  ) and flew them down to Tampa where I sit today on hotel standby duty. I used to fly for US Airways, that's why I live in CLT.
If I'm not called out to work I plan to try some more games on this G51. That's why I got it, I frequently have lots of sitting around time on trips but very little time to play games at home.

hi there, sorry about your problems. my 2 cents: I had the older g50 and had a problem with the internal battery on the mobo, bb replaced it with the one you have now. with that said, from what i can tell, the new keyboard is custom made for letting small crumbs and liquid into and beneath the keys. I would have turned the power off asap and sat the note book up side down with the keys facing downwards.

Other than that, i would if it was me take the keys off where it was spilled clean it up and head to BB and ask for a new one. i think it can be argued how the keys are set up with the big open spaces is kind of a falw...they copied apple but apples keys are sealed. im sure i'll be flamed for this, but i think you should do it. Also id get a drink on the way back.

Now you're just crossing the line man. I'm not going to argue with you on the net, because it's pointless. Anyways getting on point, I got my replacement today :)

By the way thanks everyone for the help. Appreciated!

That's like saying reporting someone to the cops after they've robbed a bank is not really helping them out. What you're doing is a sign of a dangerously low moral fiber. You're committing FRAUD.
