Ideas? I guess I will revert back to v203, which may fix it...I was really hoping v205 fixed the keyboard issue which has been bothering me.

Reverted to v204, still didn't work, had to go back to v203 to fix the issue.

There is BIOS glitch, for some reason the BIOS "thinks" the system is on recovery mode so it disable the 2nd HD, there is no way to fix it unless you press F9 when first turn on the computer and do the system restore, when the system restore is completed it'll re-enable the 2nd HD.

That's hardly acceptable. I hope that's fixed in the next version.

That's one of the reasons I'm reluctant to update drivers/Bios.

    Frack, that's awful.. I have the exact same problem. Is there any chance that going forward to 207b would fix it? I'd really rather not do any sort of system fracking restore, as I just got everything installed finally. @_@:;

You can try go back to BIOS 203:

Some people said it solved the problem without do the restore by press F9.

But what are the differences between 204 and 203? My laptop came with 204 on it, so I assume it was upgraded that far for a reason. =\

    204: update Video Card BIOS
205: Fixed keyboard lag but need to install beta ATKhot key and OSD2.
beta 206: try to fix key combo
beta 207: try to fix key combo

that's strange. After switching to 205, and the beta ATK hotkey and ATKOSD2 software, I still had keyboard lag. Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear it was still there.

One last question (thanks for all your help, by the way)

Does upgrading to the 207 beta void my warranty, since it's technically a beta version of the BIOS? And not officially supplied by ASUStek?

I think the last point is a fine one, but as long as you don't brick your laptop while writing/using the new BIOS you should be fine (after all, you can always go back to the earlier BIOS).

Still, if the BIOS does kill the laptop... I don't know -- I should emphasize people have been using it and it hasn't killed their laptop. :) Maybe Ken can help more.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but good things about 207. Anyway, back on 203 now, and I can see my second HDD again. I'll be making a full ghost image of my system HDD, copying it via a network or external storage to another drive, upgrading to 205, and if that fails, either downgrading to 203 or doing ze system restore.

If you do the system restore, does it change the BIOS back to 203 or anything, or does it just somehow.. magically make whatever version you have see the 2nd drive? o.o

(Also, keyboard lag is MUCH more pronounced in 203--205 must've done something right. I just didn't notice much.)

    Recovery does not affect BIOS.

As to the "magic", see Ken's explanation on previous page (I guess it;s there, otherwise, search through his posts).

It work for some people so I am not sure, 206 and 207 also improved keyboard lag so you try it out.

The beta BIOS is supplied by Asus and it will not void the warranty.

I had this problem with my G50V as well, but I managed to resolve it in a pretty simple way. Don't know if it will work for everyone, but it did for me, so I thought I'd post about it. Hopefully nobody else has said this already...
After updating the BIOS to v205, my 2nd HDD did indeed disappear from Vista. All I did to resolve it was:

-In the BIOS setup, select 'Load User Defaults' and save. (Yes, USER, not Manufacturer).

Lo and behold, my second HDD was back in Vista, without having to do an F9 recovery. I don't know if that will work for everyone, especially with RAID setups involved.

I came to do this because I noticed my BIOS would post twice before booting Vista - perhaps that's where it switches to the 'recovery mode' someone mentioned above. I looked that problem up instead, and found a post on the Asus support forms about it. Someone there called Asus, and the Asus tech's solution was to load User defaults instead of the Manufacturer defaults, the tech's reasoning was that the User defaults may have a different level of resets involved. It worked for that fellow, so I tried it - and it worked for me!

Again I don't know if that will work for everyone, but it sure worked for me... so far.

    Few questions:
    1) Can anyone explain what does new ASUS G50V bios Update (G50Vas.207)?
What exactly updates does it include? Is it now beta or retail?
    2) I there possibility to update G50V bios from windows? I don't feel safe to do this procedure in DOS.
    3) If i have RAID0 volume, do i have to create backup?

For a detailed BIOS update guide answering your question 2), see my signature.

The BIOS update does not affect the HDD. So, if it goes wrong, your data will still be there; however since it's RAID you would need an external RAID-supporting device to plug your HDDs into. Which may not be so easy to find. So yeah, I suggest a backup.

After you update the BIOS and try to boot to Windows you'll see message:
    Missing Operating System.

That's because new BIOS set the SATA controller back to Enhance mode, simply go back to BIOS and change it to RAID mode and you are good to go.

Yep, sorry, that didn't cross my mind.

(removed rest of message, it was stupid due to insufficient reading of Ken's post)

BTW my concerns about data recovery in case of BIOS failure still stand. So a backup is still a good idea. :)

Amazing, it works for me. Just in one step and I solve that problem. Appreciated.

I have another question: my direct console button (the button on the right of express gate button) won't work. Normally, when i press this button the direct console will appear but now it doesn't work. how can i fix this problem, any suggestion. thanks.
