I have a problem which I can't seem to solve...
If I turn my Asus on and open my 'net browser (ie7) straight away I get my internet connection (DSL through a router into a cable modem) and the connection works fine. However if I turn my PC on and don't open my broswer for about an hour - or I open it and close it and leave it closed for over an hour - then when I open the browser it can't connect to the net and I can only seem to regain access by turning off and restarting my computer...
I've checked the settings in Power4 Gear and don't have anything set to swtich off after an hour.
Does anyone know why my PC won't connect to the net unless I open my browser within an hour or so of switching my PC on?
Also when I quit playing mutliplayer games (BF2, cod4) and exit properly, my net connection gets severed and again I can't reconnect to the net unless i restart the PC.
Any idea what is going on or how I can find out?
Thanks,
Rc

Try unchecking the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" option for your network card (I'm assuming you're referring to the wired ethernet card and not the wireless card). This can be found by going into Control Panel | System, click on Hardware tab, click on Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters, right click on your wired network card, select Properties from the menu and select the Power Management tab.
As for the multiplayer games severing your network connection, it may be unrelated to the first issue. -
@ Chemistry, thanks but I had already done that... It was what I did after checking the Power4 Gear options. I had high hopes when I unchecked the box you mention, but having done it a few days ago, it has made no difference...
I also tried turning on my wireless device (when I couldn't get a wired 'net connection) and trying to connect to the net that way - and nope, still no page would load through ie7...
This is why it is confusing - I can't work out which part of the chain has the faulty link so to speak...and why...

is your wireless card still connected but cannot browse the internet?? if that is the case, then your firewall software has some bugs, turn off your security software and turn it back on to see if you get connected again
And if your wireless card get disconnected, then time to update the router firmware or get a better router.
Help - no internet connection after an hour
