I just bought my G1S from Gentech and got it today. However whenever I start it now it continues to reboot saying there was a problem from a previous time. Any suggestions? *it wont let me do anything!
-
-
Does it shut down properly?
Perhaps do a restore of the OS again. -
How can I do a restore? It wont let me select anything other than "safe" modes and start normally.
-
There should be 2 restore discs included with your G1s, just put disc 1 in the optical drive and boot up the notebook. Just follow the instructions on the screen afterwards.
-
It won't read the start up discs. (I'm usually pretty good with computers too.) I'm really freaking out though. It'll start running Vista and a blue screen will quickly pop up and the comp will restart.
-
Hmmm, that's weird. Try booting up in safe mode, then shutting down. After, wait for a good half an hour and try booting up with the restore disc and see what happens then.
I hope it gets resolved soon! -
Damn I do too I'm scared. Safe mode doesnt do anything. I guess I'll wait a half hour.
*thanks for trying to help me out. -
Oh, you haven't really answered my question before. Does it boot up properly? Did you get to the Vista desktop? Or does it give the 'Problem from previous boot up' screen every time? Since safe mode doesn't seem to do anything, I wouldn't do the wait just yet. Try putting the restore CD in again.
If that too doesn't work, then leave it til tomorrow and try again. If all fails, calling up ASUS or your dealer would be a good idea. -
It goes to the "problem from previous boot up" screen.
-
Once you are at that screen does it do anything? Can you enter one of the options(assuming its safe mode, regular, etc.)?
-
I can choose one of the options. It continues to the Vista boot screen where the bar starts to move along the bottom. Then a blue screen pops up followed by complete reboot.
-
I recommend using those restore disks.
Remember to change the boot up order in the bios. Usually it boots the HD first so you want to put the cd-rom in higher priority. -
How do I do that? I can't access anything as far as I know.
-
Well, that's just not right. I'd try the recovery discs again, if it still doesn't work, try tomorrow morning. If it all fails, contact ASUS or your dealer as soon as possible.
Here's ASUS's contact: http://support.asus.com/service/service.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
To get to BIOs, press F2 when you see the ASUS logo upon bootup. -
Thanks this may work. I was thinking it was F8 not F2. Ill reply back once its all done. You've been amazing.

you can quick change the loading mechanism by tapping F8 throughout the bootup sequence (there is one point where you are supposed to do it, but it is a short window and I can never remember exactly when it happens aside from "right before the windows splash screen," so I just tap it until the little window pops up.) Then select the Optical Drive as the boot up drive.
-
or you can just press "esc" key on the keyboard when you see the "frame" and it'll ask you to select the boot device.
what else did you install besides some games and AOL instant messenger? was Windows downloading updates? I got a call from another customer today saying everything works fine untill the computer download and install Windows update. -
I was in the midst of downloading something from Microsoft's website as well. Cant remember what exactly.
-
**It did an auto download of "virtual PC"
-
Did the restoring work?
-
-
Nope I'm still back where I was originally. It was downloading "virtual PC" from Microsoft's site. I was using Firefox. However when I realized I didnt want it I hit cancel. It then proceded to shut off and restart.

Whats the best way to restore Windows Ken?
*Thanks for answering me so quickly -
2: hit "esc" key and G1 frame logo
3: at "Please select boot device" screen choose CD/DVD and press enter
4: choose to recover Windows to 1 partition or 2 partition.
5: it'll start to recover Windows when finish it'll ask for drivers CD which is the support CD.
6: step 2 will take about one hour and 40 minutes don't turn off the computer until you see the power LED turns off. -
I had the same problem with my G1S. I posted the story in anotehr thread but the way I resolved it was to format the harddrive, and restore Vista to one partition. It seems that the was Vista is setup by Asus doesn't like to have to partitions on the same drive. So if before you had a C: and a D:, you want to end up with only a C: drive. The tech from the store I bought my G1S tried this and for the last weke it's been fine.
I have to say that even whe nI tried to use the restore CDs from Asus to re-install Vista I got the blue screen. The only way to get around this is to take the drive out and format it in another machine. -
Damn this sucks. At least its only a day old so I wont be losing anything. Thanks a lot jbzz.
This may sound like a stupid question but what is the easiest way to format and reinstall vista? -

Use the recovery disks or a windows installation disk. =)

It was a RAM issue apparently. Havent tested everything but its working fine with 2 gigs of RAM. Im going to check everything else out later when I get the chance. Talked to a comp tech guy and then Ken at Gentech both agreed on the same thing and it looks as if they were right.
