I'm not familiar with that model, but most likely you'll need to replace the motherboard. Most laptops have the video card integrated on the motherboard.

The g50v's all have dedicated video cards that an be replaced. They only use the asus versions though. They are mxm cards just flipped (meaning the connector is to the right of the nvidia main chip)

It is probably cheaper to replace the whole board than just the card itself.

    cheers ...

No why would he need to replace the board?

It's an asus mxm GPU (flipped as dobsininja said). There are many on ebay.
Just buy the GPU and stick it in the notebook, no big problem.

What card do you currently have?

I'm not sure if your BIOS supports ATI cards. And they are hard to find in the asus flavor.

Since you're limited to ASUS dedicated flipped MXM GPU's only then your best bet is an Nvidia card. The only dedicated ASUS ATI cards with the flipped MXM I've seen are the ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4870 (really a 4850) and the HD 4650 (ASUS version of this card does not have a VBIOS on the GPU itself). For a fact you know that you can replace your current dead GPU with the same one (Geforce 9800M GS) and a couple of people have confirmed that the ASUS Geforce GTX 260M also works, so I wouldn't test my luck on anything else.

Don't worry you should be able to max out Bioshock with the GTX 260M and no problem, always glad to help. :)

Its not going to be cheap. If that 9800M GS goes for $200 on ebay, I'd expect to fork at least $300. Thats about 30% of how much you paid for your notebook brand new.

I understand it sucks that your video card is broken and you want to rebuild it, but in these cases its sometimes better to cut your losses and headaches by just buying a new notebook.

First of all we don't know how much that GTX 260M will go for since it's a bid item, second it would cost more than $300 to buy a new laptop that comes with a GTX 260M or equivalent in it. The third point would be regards to waste. Why throw away an investment and help kill the planet in the process while that notebook can be turned into something useful again?

    Hers something to read:

Okay mr cheeseman lets be REASONABLE!

This 260M GTX is going for $475 Buy it Now not including shipping.

Do you honestly think dobosninja is going to let his 260M GTX go for less than ball park for 400$? I mean let us be honest here, there are only 2 260M GTXs on ebay. If someones is going to low ball him, I bet he's going to claim that he lost it.

My recommendation after considering the planet's welface :p is to go for a 9600M GT, which draws less power and makes less heat, or something along those lines you can pick up for maybe $100 and get your machine working again. I know it won't be much of a gamer machine, but at least you can get work done.

Then..after couple months get yourself a new gaming machine.

Heres a 9600M GT for Asus notebooks.

Buy it now is $170, but hopefully you can get it lower by making offer.

Heres a 8400M GS for Asus notebooks.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Asus-A8-Z99-nVidia-8400M-G-G86-703-A2-128M-MXM-VGA-card_W0QQitemZ120531666736QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Video_TV_Cards?hash=item1c103f4730
For $100, it isn't the best deal, but at least you can get your machine working.
