OK so I didnt click in the second switch for my battery on the bottom and I was lifting my notebook up to put in the ac plug because it was on my bed, and when I did I accidentally pulled the battery out, my laptop was on at the time and I lost power of course, I plug in my laptop and put the battery back in making sure I use the second locking switch and when I turned on my laptop I barely have functionality, xpress gate works fine, but when I start vista and log in it is ridiculously slow, I am trying to work around it and am defragging hoping something small is just being a major roadblock. The computer ran chkdsk when I booted it after losing power. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Does reformatting and starting fresh sound like my only hope? I hope not because this will be the second time a power issue has caused a reformat, and I swear if it happens I will destroy both Tesla and Edisons innovations!

    Please help me!

I've taken my battery out many times before while unplugged (by accident of course  ), but have never experienced a slow boot up. Usually your system will go through a system/hard drive check because it wasn't shut down properly, but other than that, everything works fine.
I would probably check your hard drive for errors and if that doesn't work, I guess a fresh reinstall would be in order.

Yeah I don't understand what is wrong with it, and what is embarrassing is that I am a computer science major, haha. It took my computer almost a half hour to fully boot up and get running to mostly normal functionality, I am defragging as we speak and checking for errors. Then I might update drivers because I got some C++ runtime errors on boot up as well.

defraging will not help. it happens quite often in vista to me as well. Disable defender. Remove norton IS. Remove live update. Shut down fully then restart. After a crash like you had it is just running check and reports in the background. It is "normal"
