    Hey guys,

I previously owned an M50Sv which I was very happy with, but now I have to look for a replacement. I need a laptop with a powerful CPU (T9550 seems to be a great spot for price/performance, with the next step costing much more) for work, but I'm also going to be using it for my personal needs, which include media & gaming.

I looked at the G5VT and it looks fantastic, but it won't fly in a meeting, especially with all the blue LEDs (which would be fun at home, but .... ).

It seems like all the M50Sv relatives I look at either have a low resolution or older/slower CPUs. What I really want to find is:

    1650X1050 resolution
    15-17" screen
Preferably a number pad like the M50Sv
    T9550
Best GPU that fits this without needing blinking LEDs
I see that the new models have a 9650 GT, which is .. acceptable, but I'd love to be able to fit something better if possible.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

g50vt-a1 have close to the specs you want. The newer versions of the g50vt support the t9550 and has a 9800m gs. as for the blue leds... well that can be turned off.

Hey, I actually wouldn't mind it it all if I didn't have to pretend I'm a serious person who uses his laptop to work from time to time.

So the shield on the back stays glowing no matter what you do?

Do all recent Asus laptops have ExpressGate and that turbo mode?

Why are you limiting yourself to Asus?

I have owned an Asus and appreciate they can be good quality but you should also take a look at other models.

Well if you only want Asus, you have to settle for G50vt A1 or A2 etc, or some X models. Otherwise you will hardly get an upgrade from your 9500M GS to 9650GT.

If you can accept other suggestions, I recommed the MSI GT725 074US, for 1350dlrs you get a 2.4ghz C2D, 4GB of ram, 320GB HDD, 17 inch screen with 1680x1050 res, ah sorta plain gaming look without the blinking leds, and an ATi HD4850 512MB DDR3 which is between 9800GT and GTX from nvidia regarding performance.

The MSI also has the turbo CPU capability of the Asus laptops, so you can OverClock 15% extra with a button.

I am thinking of upgrading myself to the MSI but the performance wise I am still rather happy with my laptop, so maybe I will save up for a W90.

EDIT: Forgot to add the url haha

I need a brand that would provide global warranty and that also has labs here... need to see if MSI does.

    Thanks for the recommendation.
Any other brand worth looking at for this class of laptops? Is Dell competitive here at all?

In this case I highly recommend you take a look at the Sager NP8662 and customise that to your liking. If you don't find the customisation options online good enough then you can phone them up and they usually give you more options. You can also save some money and go for the previous model which is the NP8660 if their are still some in stock.

I'd do that for sure if I were in the US, but they don't have any local labs and I need to have support for whatever I end up buying.
