Hi, Im a new college student and I need a laptop my student loan check is in the mail and I've had my eye on the G1s-A1 since I first laid eyes on it. I figured I'd come and ask on this forum for opinions and its pro's and con's. I AM a gamer so this laptop would have to almost become a portable desktop for me and Its specs are seem pretty impressive.

So If you could tell me the pro's and con's and If you think I should get it what I should expect/do first when It arrives I'd really appreciate it =]!

I got my G1S-A1 a couple days ago and it is great. Only 2 cons I can think of

    1. The battery charge issue, hopefully the new BIOS comes out soon.
    2. I haven't really tested them out, but apparently the speakers are on the weaker side.

For portable gaming power, I have to go with the V2s, definately.

The Battery Charge issue is kind of annoying but as long as they fix it I'll be happy =]

and I usually use headphones so the speakers are really non issue.

I couldn't find any info on the V2s can you point me in any directions, and in what ways is it more powerful than the G1s-A1?

I appreciate your help btw =D

It's not more powerful graphics wise (8600GS < 8600GT) but blueblurr is saying that for portability and decent gaming, the V2S > G1S because of the weight difference.

Yeah, the G1s is pretty big. And get's pretty hot. You could also go for the V1s.

Might want to watch out for the V1S as owners are complaining about a battery wear issue (read the threads on it, basically the batter is showing 0% when it has more than that and causes battery life to decrease at a very fast rate.) the G1S should definitely be your pick because it has the gaming power and is decently portable. the V2S is more portable and business suited but lacks in the graphics department. If your're going to be hardcore gaming, the V2S might not be able to handle the graphic intensive games, so you should go for the g1 if your're gonna be gaming a lot and the V2 for more portability and some gaming power.

I've been playing games with my G1S on my lap with no heat issues. I'm taking it to college as my mobile notetaking/gaming rig, 2 hours battery life is plenty enough for my needs. My mom's Powerbook G4 doesn't even last that long (It usually barely makes it through a DVD movie, and lately I've been noticing it's battery must be going out cause the time goes from 2+ hours on the estimated battery life thing to like 40 minutes in no time...)
