    Hi Guys,

I was the forum member that bought Kickace's C90s from him. The laptop came with 64bit Vista installed but I needed to download it to 32bit to run my DJing program. Here is where the problem popped up.

I tried downgrading to 32bit vista by running the 32bit vista installation CD that was including and have run into a snag. Everything was running along smoothly until during restart the Asus started stalling after the ASUS log came on, the Microsoft Corporation working screen just kept thinking for about 4 or 5 hours straight. This is when I decided to just shut down the computer, can you help?

I Noobie at computers so detailed explanations would help immensely.

The problem is that I really need it be fixed today so I can DJ with it tonight.

If your not using a legal copy of x86, it will hang at the crcdisk.sys. I was installing x86 along side my x64 partition, as i have an extra cd key, but it wouldn't finish booting. it was a pain in the ass.

Whats x85 by the way? How can I solve this?

Even if I found a legal copy, how can I get the DVD to install since the computer is at the working screen?

The screen with the green bar going across? A legal dvd does not crash here. x86 is 32 bit. Quickest thing to do would be to run to a computer shop and buy vista home basic x86, then use you existing ey to install from there. The keys are interchangeable, the cd's, however only contain x64 or x86

    That is exactly what happened.

After I go buy vista home basic, How can I get the Installation disc to install from that screen?

So I'll have vista home basic installed then vista home premium. Correct?

Sorry for all the seemingly silly questions.

What he means by the x86 is 32-bit.

The chipset in the C90S seems to not like the cracked copy of vista x86 for whatever reasons. It works fine on my 2 other computers though.

I think you can also order a DVD for $20 at microsoft website (according you have the certificate of autenticity and not only the cd-key)

    Hmmmm... thanks guys.

do I just load the New Vista DVD in when I start it up and wait for the computer to recognize it, or do I have to press some special keys during the stall screen?

    it should load automatically

otherwise hit escape a few times when you first restart - it will then ask you to change your boot order, and make sure that you click the DVD drive to be first, rather than the hard drive

that way it boots off the disk and not the hard drive

I think the best thing to do is not try to install over the current (failed) install (as I believe you are implying), but make a new, clean install with the new, legal serial number.

Yah. I think you're right. I just talked to my DJ friends and I've come to the conclusion that XP may be whats best for SERATO.

Any kinks I should know for an XP clean install?

P.S. -thanks for all the replys. You guys have been very helpful.

The main kink is the need for a SATA driver which the XP kits do not have by default. Search for "slipstream sata driver xp" and you will find a lot of guides, I'm sure. Also there might be an option in the BIOS to temporarily put SATA into IDE compatibility mode for the duration of the install.

Otherwise, just a normal XP install with perhaps some difficulty in getting the XP drivers.

Check my XP guide for some tweaks to get it running smoothly.

    thank E.B.E, you've been a big help.

I'll try to figure out how to figure out the SATA stuff when I start the install.

Alright. I just did my research and I can just switch SATA in the IDE with the updated BIOS 205 from Asus.

    1. Since my computer is at a stall right now. How can I do that while installing XP?
    2. Can I download the BIOS after I install XP?
    3. or do I have to install XP without either, install the most updated BIOS, change the IDE setting to SATA and then install XP again?

I would update the BIOS (you need no OS for it, use one of my first two methods -- check my BIOS guide), and then install XP.

It is pointless to install XP twice.

Updating BIOS is not linked to the XP install, they are two different things.

Well guys! Everything is settle and working!

I now have XP installed on my Asus C90s. I installed the drivers from the Asus DVD. any advice on new drivers if necessary?

Also does anybody know what the Network Controller is? I don't think I have the driver for it.
