hi everyone, I have decided to install XP 64bit on my Asus G1s, and Dual it with Ubuntu 8.10, since I am new with linux , I can figure and learn step by step how to install the drivers later, but my issue here is that I couldn't find the drivers for the XP 64 bit, because I want to upgrade the ram so I can use the 4GB, I am using right now the XP SP2 , and all the drivers work fine even if they're not well updated, SO the question is : are the drivers for XP32bit can work with 64bit? if not where can I find the drivers for xp 64bit, so I can install the operating system properly?

Thank You in Advance, and Happy new year.

My advice is to avoid using Xp 64bit. driver support for that particular OS is scarce and even if they are available, are poorly written. If you need a 64 bit OS, I'd suggest opting Vista 64 instead.

just what I thought :p. No problems yet using 64bit, no single one in 3 months, its stable and can use all prgms, games,... I use.

What are your reasons to go with xp 64 if i may ask?

Actually I have tested Vista32bit, but I didn't like it, it got too many security messages, and it takes much resources, I like xp, I will try to configure my G1S so I can install it properly.

I want to use 4GB of RAM, and I heard it is much faster than the 32bit. :D

Those security messages can be disabled. Yes, Vista 32 does use a little more resources than XP, but it's not enough for you to notice the difference now, especially with the release of SP1. Gaming wise, there still is a noticeable difference though - but not much.

64bit doesn't necessarily mean it'll run programs faster than 32bit. In fact, 64bit uses more system memory compared to a 32bit OS running the same program

For the record, I'm not trying to spark a XP Vs Vista debate (I use both and both have their pros and cons), but instead, would like to strongly suggest sticking with XP 32 bit if you want XP or go with Vista 64 bit if you want a 64bit OS.

it isnt that noticeably faster with 4GB RAM and 64BIT (unless in prgmr as photoshop CS4). Drivers for 64bit can be used with the initial drivercd, no problems at all.

btw: just like xp, u can tweak vista alot and skip th annoying security stuff, and mae it boot faster etc.
