    Hi,

I want to buy the Aussie version of the z70v but am getting different info on the specs.

The machine I want is the M6QVA740DL56PG. If anyone can please post the specs that would be great.

It seems like a bargain because the comparison of the 3 m6 series is ..

    m6a(z70a) - integrated graphics - wxga - au$1,930
    This one(z70v) - x600 - wsxga - au$2,030
    m6v(z70va) - x700 - wsxga - au$2,780

It seems to good to be true if apart from the different dedicated gpu's the 2 machines are close to the same. The key things I am trying to make sure of is the fsb, hdd speed, screen res and if its a matte or glossy finish? I have got different answers from retailers about the specs, one said it has a wxga matte screen and another that it has a wsxga glossy screen  And haven't heard anything back from Asus international or our local Asus service centre. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks alot!

Just get the Z70va the others suck :) its just the best one and is normaly in matte screen. ok the ones that came to the US were all matte. the z70a is a low rez screen with the intel GMA900 video card very basic. the z70v and the Z70va are pretty much the same expect the X700 video card is much better. and the z70va can come with bluetooth built in. the screens are great for the z70v and z70va. it all depends to you do you want to game alot? if not the Z70v seemt to be 780 cheaper thats alot. in the US its only about 150 cheaper. and the from side bus mempory. cpu harddrive are all the same. i mean they can all take the same specs. but since this is a built on machine its built to order here in the US. but all those parts are the same inside and interchangable.

Thanks alot SRD - Thats exactly what I expected, that the Aussie machines would be the same too, but when I went to order different sites had different specs and when I contacted them they started talking about glossy screens and no-one could agree.

The x600 is ideal for me for the price because its not for gaming but I am looking for a nice bright matte screen, and for an extra $100 bucks I get a hi-res screen and a bit of graphics power to run some of the Windows Vista eye-candy.

Yeah, but unfortunately thats part of the prob, different sites have different specs.

With the price difference between the 2 gpu's being US$150 and AU$700 it just seems to good to be true, I know our dollar is bad but its not that bad :D And when retailer's gave me different specs I got a bit worried and want to make sure, as I have to order it in.

    Cheers

You will find that in Oz, different re-sellers will have different spec's depending on how they customise the laptops. That is there are different flavours of the M6 series, so one dealer may have some older/slower cpu models and is selling them out dirt cheap...while others that have the latest model will place a premium on those.
so for eg a M6V could have a range of hdd sizes and memory configs...and to make it even more confusing there is often 2 or more screen configs available. When I got my M6Ne for eg there was the both the WXGA and WSXGA screens for sale, thus pay close attention to the small print on everything.
Thus its quite possible that the re-sellers are telling the truth, and the best thing you can do is shop around for the best price on the model that suits your needs. There are plenty of retailers with brick and mortar stores too, so perhaps if your really worried go check the laptop out in person, that way you can be sure.
    a
    :)

Thanks alot Underpantman! Thats very, very good to know :)

I had bit of look around but most of the bricks and mortars here in Brissie only carry the m6a, I haven't found any with the x600 or x700 :( Also using a search engine to find the cheapest prices in Oz usually lists sites in Sydney or Melbourne.

An interesting and not good thing is that one of the places I contacted to check the specs changed them from wsxga to wxga after I spoke to him, which at this price makes more sense. Also alot of the web sites just paste general info from Asus which covers all models eg ..

    PentiumĀ® M processor 730/740/750/760/770
    Clock Speed: 1.60-2.13GHz
    15.1 - XGA/SXGA+ & 15.4 - WXGA/WSXGA

Will have to get the exact specs from individual retailers :)

    Thanks again!

    Cheers

Just a quick thought, did/does the m6 series come with a glossy screen?

Like SRD said all the z70 models are matte, and the 2 wxga m6a's I have seen were both matte too. It would make it alot easier to know if they are all matte here in Australia too?

I am losing a bit of faith in the websites accuracy after a site changed the specs after I queried them to specs that seem more realistic for the price, or reply saying they don't know the specs at all.

The site that changed the stats said the one they had was matte and mentioned that it didn't have the colourshine finish, and a couple of others have said there's is a wsxga glossy finish. Unfortunately I deleted the emails when the answers all conflicted.

    Cheers
