Hi all,
I have a question regarding the ram location on the W3J-H026P.
Does the factory 1gb stick come located under the keyboard or on the botom of th pc?
Also to those whole are resellers.....
Which brand of ram do you use for the W3J's that people decide to up the ram to 2gb?
I want to know this because before vista is released I want to up the ram in my W3J to 2 gb without running into compatability issues!
Please all resellers give your brands, I guess the brand varies depending on the reseller.
This is a great forum, so informative!
I wanted to share this since this is really unclear in another thread.
Thanks in advance!

Don't take this the wrong way, or think it's rude, but most resellers are not going to tell you what RAM they use.
Most resellers give you the option to 'upgrade' to a named-brand memory. This is considered an upgrade because the named memory you get is usually purchased as a matched pair (best for running dual-channel with), and name-brand memory is generally considered to be more reliable. If you choose not to buy a name-brand upgrade, you will get the "store brand" memory. You will not know what brand this is, and they will not tell you. Usually, the reason is because they stick in whatever brand they happen to have a surplus of at the time, to save inventory costs.... That's why its less expensive. It is possible, however, that you might even get the same memory module as the named brand, if they have a surplus of it (though this is a very rare circumstance).
I do not begrudge them this policy, because resellers are in business to make money. If they don't make money, they don't stay in business. If they don't stay in business, they can't provide warranty service and such to their customers. Usually, profit margin on hardware is thin enough, anyway, that it wouldn't make a huge difference in price...and it'd be considerably more difficult for the reseller.
I have seen most resellers use brands like Kingston and Corsair. I personally prefer corsair...i've had nothing but good experiences and performance with their desktop RAM. I should note, however, that the "store brand" is not necessarily inferior! When we talk about what RAM is better than another RAM, we are talking about miniscule differences in performance that even a computer guru would have a hard time noticing in a double-blind test. The biggest difference might be the CAS Latency (commonly called "timing") of the memory. These are measured in clock-cycles, for the different operations of the memory modules. Less clock cycles is considered better, but ultimately much more expensive. That is why you see "low latency" RAM modules out there, and why they cost so much more.
Generally, you don't need to worry about what RAM to put in your computer, so long as the Frequency of the ram (533Mhz, 633Mhz, etc) is supported by your laptop's motherboard. You CAN go slower, but you CANNOT go faster. I advise picking the brand you trust, and roll with what they offer. If you don't have a favorite, best thing to do is go middle-of-the-road in the price category, but DO GO WITH A MAJOR BRAND. No-name brand memory in aftermarket sectors -is- generally inferior, and much lower quality. Too cheap, and its probably old/crappy/high-latency RAM. Too expensive, and the difference in performance is not worth the money you will spend.
Also, bear in mind that RAM prices vary daily. If you are buying aftermarket RAM, the same exact module might be cheaper, or more expensive, depending on the day you buy it.
Hope this helps shed some light on the issue for you. -

The ram is located on the bottom underneath the laptop. As ChetKabak states use the correct speed of RAM (DDR2 667) and use a brand such as Corsair, Kingston or even brands such as OCZ or Crucial will be fine with the W3J.

The memory in W3j can be put in 2 locations, one is on the bottom, another is under the keyboard. Asus already have put 1 stick 1024MB memory under the keyboard, it will let the user be easy to upgrade the memory by taking out the cover on the bottom. It doesn't matter to use which brand name memory as long as they don't have any conflict and error, the same speed will be perfect for choosing another stick.

Use CPU-Z to detect the Memory type...
