I kept getting a usb error and the computer eventually stopped booting past the first screen (with the ASUS gaming logo on it). I was able to use the recovery disk and did a full recovery on both partitions, but it still won't get past the first boot screen. Any help would be great because I certainly don't want to have to buy a copy of Vista and do a full format if I don't have to.

Do you have any USB devices plugged into the notebook? If not, then that's not a good sign to me.

Nope, no USB devices, and it's not a good sign.
