My F3JP came w/ the 202 BIOS which causes the grainy screen. I've been trying to flash to 203 which I downloaded from the sticky on the Asus forum, but WinFlash doesn't seem to work properly. I choose the .rom file in winflash and then the computer shuts down. I enter BIOS after restart and save but it still stays as 202. I tried to do it from within BIOS using EasyFlash but it says it doesnt work w/ cd-rom, 2nd hd or usb and it fails when i choose the .rom file. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

The WinFlash doesn't Flash BIOS in Windows, after you click "Flash" the computer will reboot to DOS mode and starts to flash BIOS, so don't enter BIOS after computer reboots, enter BIOS after the BIOS flash is finish in DOS mode.

Hey gentechpc, im just gonna copy and paste this from my other post replies for ya, hope it helps.

"If the instructions for flashing the bios do not work for you (they did not for me) on the bios sticky thread try this instead (worked for me), Download the 203 bios from Asus's website (Or you can ge tthe one from the sticky for the F3JP model they are both the same),

Save the bios to your default drive (i saved mine to "C:\F3JP.ROM" for example) make sure you remember the name and directory.

Reboot, hit F2 to enter the BIOS Setup, proceed to the Advanced tab, select "start flash bios" and then go ahead and highlight the BIOS, not the .rom file but F3JP.BIN(lol i tried it wont work there should be two of them F3JP203.ROM and another F3JP.bin" Hit enter and flash that bad boy.

Reboot, hopefully the grainyness is gone."

Thanks! I will try these tonight and hopefully it'll work. WinFlash never rebooted to dos for me, it just shut down the computer. Hopefully doing it from within BIOS will work.

I had the same problem with my computer. System just shut down. After a few attempts on two different versions it just worked. It didn't shut down but actually updated the bios

I also tried to update from BIOS and it worked fine. This way it is also possible to use older BIOS versions as well. WinFlash does not allow use older versions than currently in use.

Hello there is a easy procedure to flash a new bios for ASUS notebooks. :D
You do not need Winfalsh.

By the way for all F3JP owners, there is a new bios v205.t1 that also solves the grainy screen problem.
Check the sticky post by GentechPC to download this bios v205.t1.

So here goes the procedure to flash. I give an example of flashing F3JP with v205.t1 to make things clearer. :)

In order to flash your F3jp notebook with this bios do following:

1- Put the bios file F3JP205.t1 directly under root directory C.
    2- Restart your computer.
3- At the startup press F4, this should start the flash utility directly.
No need for Winflash and no need to go to bios by pressing F2. You can start the utility directly by F4.
5- Under the flash utility navigate to root directory C.
    6- Select the file F3JP205.t1.
7- Then just select to flash it.
8- After a successful flash the computer will shut down.
    9- Restart the computer.
10- Press F2 to go to the bios.
11- Load the manufacturer default setting.
12- Save the settings and exit.

It is important that you restore the default manufacturer setting after flash otherwise sometime Windows XP can crash after you restart your PC for the first time.
Windows may say that it has found new hardware. In that case usually it will install the drivers automatically, if not than provide it with your driver CD.

    Good luck. ;)

I don't think that v206 solves the grainy screen problem of F3JP. ;)

Well alrighty then. I just flashed 205.t1. I didn't really have a grain problem before anyway but it's good to be up to date.

Sorry to bump what seems to be an old thread but it's not working for me. I extracted the BIOS update file to the root of my C: drive but it's just not showing up in EasyFlash from the BIOS. I've tried leaving the file at it's default name F3JpAS.208, I've tried renaming it to .ROM, .BIN, using all caps, etc, nothing works, EasyFlash just refuses to list it. I've tried with the 206 BIOS aswell with the same issue. Am I missing something obvious here because it's driving me mad :(

Oddly enough it worked for the modified (to fix the grainyness) F3JP207.T00 file but wont work for any others.

    Anyone?
