    Hi,

After reading several reviews on TuneXP I decided to install it. Initially I was very happy with the shutdown process, which had been sluggish before.

However, after the ultra-booting... was performed, boot time increased dramatically.

First, the Windows XP screen disappeared rather fast after 10 seconds or so. Then the screen stayed blank for quite long. After that the mouse popped up and stayed there for a while before everything turned up.

This is really strange! I removed TuneXP and still got a very slow system startup. What is wrong with it?

What should I do? Reinstall TuneXP and let everything as they are now or is there any better solution?

You need to turn on your task manager and wait until defragmenting is complete (defrag.exe and dfrgNTFS.exe both dissappear) for it to work properly.

It is described, in detail, in my Tweaks below

EDIT: First try the solution as posted by flamenko -- he beat me to the post as I was typing :(

If you've already run the ultra-boot tweak, your system files on the HDD have been relocated and rearranged. Leaving the program on your HD or removing it does nothing to impact boot time, as it is not accessed or started on bootup.

Three options are available for you to try and fix the issue you've encountered:

    1. Run the Defrag Boot Files tweak; this might help some, but this is likely to make only modest improvement.

    2. Run the Asus recovery disc to reset the system to factory delivery specs. This removes all of your programs and data, however.

    3. Use the Hibernate feature of Windows rather than Shut Down, and use regular boot only for Windows updates that require it. This will give you an effective bootup time of <30 sec.

Your other choice is to simply learn to live with your system as it exists - it sounds like something happened on the ultra-boot file relocation (PCs do strange things sometimes), but you're unlikely to ever find the culprit and I don't know of a way to move the files back.

flamenko: Thanks. But that doesnt help either. I read your tweak post and appreciate half of it coz Im running XP. What about Winpatrol, I find this particular little puppy very useful.

ClearSkies: Thanks. I guess I 'll just have to deal with it as it is. Hibernation is the best solution in this case. Thanks for the previous BIOS reply as well.
