Tonight while gaming the laptop just quit on me. It was plugged in like it always is and I couldnt' figure out what happened. I picked up the power supply and it was cold to the touch (yet the green light was on indicating it was working fine). The laptop however was very hot under the palms (normally it isn't). I've unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in (into wall and laptop). Now I can't get the laptop to even turn on.

Any ideas? Sucks since I've only had it for less than a week.

Wait for it to cool off, maybe it's overheating. Otherwise it sounds like a trip to the Asus repair shop.

This sucks. I wonder why it would be overheating (if that's the case).

The 8600m GT in the G1s gets hot after gaming. I use a Targus fan pad with mine. I'm not saying that you need one, nor should one overheat from normal gaming, but it's just what sounds like happened to yours.

    Thanks.

Well it's been about 1/2 hour and still won't turn on (even when plugged in). :(

    Mujtaba -
I took the battery out and put it back in then tried powering it up (in that sequence)...no luck.

That's pretty scary and puts me off from considering a G1S purchase. -_-

Everyone can get a defective or semi-defective unit, I have no reason to consider this anything above an isolated case.

Is the battery light charging on the laptop?

There is a common circuit in asus laptops that shuts the laptop off when the battery gets too low and does not reset until you plug it in and charge the battery up.

When I plug the power supply in, there is no indicator light lit on the laptop.

I know the battery is drained, however cannot seem to turn it on even if it's plugged in with the power supply.

Are you sure the power supply is working since it is cold even when plugged in? Sounds like a defective power supply and a drained battery hence unable to power up.

Know anyone with a G1S so you can try their battery and/or power supply?

well then try to remove the battery and connect the plug and try to turn it on (without the battey), if its a defective power supply then it wont turn on, if its the battery causing the issue then it will turn on.

Yeah tried plugging it in without the battery installed and the laptop won't turn on nor are there any indicator lights. The green light on the Power Supply is on though...weird.

    It's going to ASUS tomorrow...

i'd say a shorted out power supply is the problem. it shouldn't be cool to the touch when it's plugged in.

I talked with ASUS and they issued me an RMA and FedEx shipper number to send it back overnight for free. They rep said they've seen this before and it ranged from busted Power Supply (as you mentioned) to something wrong with the motherboard. The rep also just asked if I wanted to send it in to get replaced with a brand new laptop. I went ahead and opted for that..why not. The 2nd rep (I had to call back with some questions) said it should take about the same amount of time to receive the new laptop as it would repairing the old one.

I must say...the customer service at ASUS is a pleasure to deal with. They answer quickly, are friendly, and helpful.

    Thanks all who replied!
