This isn't really Asus specific, but if I upgrade from 1GB to 2GB of RAM, will the time it takes to go into and out of hibernation mode be significantly longer since more data will have to be written to and read from the HD?
    Twice as long?
If I have 2 gig of RAM, will 2 gig be written to the HD everytime regardless of how much RAM I'm actually utilizing?
    Thanks.

I don't think so... I think it will dump whatever's currently written on your RAM to the hard drive; it will, however RESERVE 2GB of space just in case you do use up 2GB of RAM... but most of the time, I doubt it will write 2GB to your HD

auroraS is right. As you add more RAM the amount of time you wait for hibernation is not linear. It's more logrithmic. I'm sure if you were using all your RAM it would take longer, but generally when you hibernate you're not using that much. I haven't found that much of a change from 1gb (I run the windows kernal all in RAM, i've disabled the pagefile, and i've enabled extensive system caching, so i'm using more ram than when i had 1gb as well)

I have carried out a crude test which supports Aurora's statement that the amount of hibernation data depends on the RAM being used. Assuming a hard disk read / write speed of 25MB/s (typical performance for a notebook HDD), reading / writing 1GB will take 40 seconds. So if you have 2GB RAM all in use, it will take around 1.5 minutes. Not quick, but much faster than shutting everying down and reopening the same applications when you start up.

Usually, I notice a pause of around a minute when I turn on my computer after overnight hibernation. The computer reads the HDD and then everything goes black for a while. Finally, the computer comes to life.

to tell you the truth, i only use suspend (which turns almost everything off like hibernate, and only uses about 2-4% of my battery an hour). i use my computer so frequently that even when i am not going to use it for an hour or two, it's so much quicker to suspend it. i shut it down at the end of the day. it takes roughly 5-10 seconds to suspend and about that same amount of time to resume.
