Hello to everybody!
Got a big problem, after reinstalling Windows Vista Home Premium on my M51Va hibernation and suspend to ram in the Start menu stopped working! They became white as a skeleton so there is no access to this part of menu. Did everything possible to fix to problem in the Power Settings menu, but nothing helped. Evidently, some part of hardware or software got handicapped. Can anybody explain how to fix this? These functions are very useful and besides, I am just curious why it happened, but a couple of books I got on Vista don't give any clue. In addition, the computer when started and after pressing F2 says it cannot find TPM which is a part of a microsystem responsible for security. Just wonder is it normal? Could it be that in the process of replacing the DVD-rom in service center they could damage this thing???
Many, many thanks for help!!!

This is usually due to some driver issues. For STR to work, drivers must OK it explicitly, so if you have devices without installed drivers (look for exclamation marks in the device manager nodes) or bad drivers this could be the reason.

Seems, drivers are Ok. Just to be sure upgraded some ATK and P4G - no use. Plus I have the latest 211 BIOS. Btw, the problem started before Windows reinstallation. On closing the cover the laptop would hang and it could be driven out of this state only after pressing the close\restart button. When loading the Safe state mode always appeared. Could it be because of the motherboard or any other hardware?? The device manager reveals no problems.
Thanks for your help, Starfox!!! One more question if you don't mind. Do you think if by using Windows recovery soft again along with the second utility and driver disk the problem could be fixed or it's better to reinstall WIndows anew to be sure that the problem is not hardware??? Respect. -
That sounds like an ACPI issue. Check your bios settings, maybe? Are you sure there're no devices w/o installed drivers? No yellow exclamation marks in device manager?

Hi,
Bios is Ok. You were right, the problem is in ACPI. However even though i reinstalled the driver, the sleep and hibernation options did not reappear. Then I recalled one stupid thing i did. I installed the ACPI driver twice, and did that as with an ordinary software, not through the device manager, so maybe this somehow got registered seomwhere deep inside Windows, and even reinstallation via device manager (after deleting the driver completely) did not help. So I found no better way then to recover Windows again - for the third time in three months !! And my poor Asus came back to sleep ! Thanks, StarFox, anyway for helping understand how to deal with the problem!
Hibernation and STR dead!
