I'm new to the forum, so first things first, hi guys!

Now, to business! I really hope someone can help me. I have an Asus g50vt gaming laptop (upgraded to windows 7 ultimate), which I have connected to my Samsung tv via hdmi. I am also using wireless keyboard and mouse and have external hdd's connected.
Now, my issue is that I keep my laptop shut and use the Samsung as the primary monitor, which works fine. But when I want to put my laptop into hibernation mode, it doesn't like it. It's very strange as sleep works perfectly fine, but for longer periods I'd rather hibernate. I've tried power manager to no avail, and went through the list of attached devices , but bizarrely it doesn't give me power options on the tabs like other cpu's, so I'm now out of options.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Have you checked and see if hibernation works with original internal LCD screen?
Check to see if there's a newer BIOS update available for your machine, and update the VGA drivers.

Hi. thanks for the response. I've checked to see if hibernation works with the laptop with nothing connected, and still no joy. The VGA drivers and bios are up to date. I'm thinking that because the laptop came with Vista installed, and I upgraded to 7, that it no longer recognises hibernate.
Does anyone have any other ideas, or do I need to just make do with sleep?
    Thanks.

I see, as you've stated that the issue could be related to Windows upgrades.
Best to do a clean install instead, or just give up the use of hibernation.

Thanks for the advice. I'll reinstall, and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise yes, I'll just have to make do with sleep and forget about hibernate.
    Thanks again.
