I have two Asus EEE PC 1015PEG machines and I find that the stock battery is not good enough for my needs.

I thought about carrying a spare battery, but the retention mechanism is so flimsy that changing batteries regularly could break the notebook.

I checked out eBay for a high-capacity replacement, and found that there is a flourishing market for high capacity EEE batteries with 9- and even 10-cell options. Unfortunately, none of them is compatible with the 1015 model.

My stock battery is 47W/hr and there are only a handful of 63W/hr batteries for the 1015 (like this) and they are expensive. I was wondering if I should get one of these or wait. Is there a reason to expect that high-capacity replacement batteries for the 1015 would show up later?

    Thanks

Asus is not going to directly manufacture a higher capacity battery - anything is going to be aftermarket OEM-compatible.

Sometimes battery tech gets cheaper, but not always. Best advice is if you truly *need* a different battery to ensure workflow because you can't get to a charger, then you can at least justify the purchase (albeit with a price).

The 1015 series is a pretty new one, only 9 months old, and it generally takes time for aftermarket battery suppliers to start making product in volume so maybe something will show up in the next 6 months or so.

On the other side, since a high cap battery is only going to net you 20-30% runtime increase you might really be better served with just getting the spare for those occasions when its needed. IF you change batteries carefully, you generally should be ok.

I ordered the 63W/hr battery from eBay seller digi_club8888 and I'm happy with the result as it seems to provide the ~90min boost I needed (I'll update here if otherwise).

If you ask me this is the part Asus should have shipped in the first place!
