I've read a few posts over on notebookforums of some users complaining of "sparkle effect" (not quite sure what it is, but many complains over it) mainly on the new Z71V and cracking on the hinges of the M6BNe and M6Ne.

I was wondering if anyone here cares to comment on either of these two issues, especially if you've experienced one or the other. Is the "sparkle" issue stricly related to the new Z71V, or all new Asus screens? What exactly is it? As for the hinge cracking, is that stricly to the M6 series, or others as well? Any easy remedies?

Thanks to any comments in advance

As a side note, if anyone is looking to sell their M6BNe/M6Ne, shoot me an e-mail or PM.

as to the "sparkle effect", I believe Justin said it's the same screen as the W1N, and I just read the V6v review on this site that mentioned it also, so I'm guessing it's on all of them. However, so far a distinct majority of new Asus owners (90% or so, based on a notebook forums poll) don't see it as an issue. I have not heard much about the hinge cracking. I read one thread about one person's experience with that problem in notebook forums, but I'm pretty sure this isn't common.

I haven't seen any hinge cracking on my M6Ne... I don't think it's a huge problem. People have said that they notice some sort of "denting" near their hinges due to hinge tension, but I don't think it has caused any real problems except for maybe the odd person here and there. It really isn't an issue.

As for this "sparkle" effect, I'm not really sure what it is... I think it's exclusive to the Z71v since I haven't heard any complaints about the W1N, but I could be wrong. Most people say it's noticable, but not bothersome

I have the cracking hindge problem with my M6. Its on the left side of the machine on the left side of the hindge. I've also noticed its a bit wobbly or something. It doesnt affect me though, its sorta a nonissue though. I think its caused by keeping the laptop in my bag vertically because it causes stress on one side. I can take pics if youre interested but i dont think you are :p.

Does anyone think the sparkle thing would be a viable reason not to get the Z71V? I myself was thinkin of getting it, but if this is a problem...

Despite this "sparkle" issue, people continue to purchase it and find it a non-issue... I think there's really only been one or two instances where people have been dissatisfied enough to return their laptops. Other than that, people don't really notice it much.

I think you'd be very happy with the Z71v
