Right now, its making these bumpy sounds that I hear from the what I believe is the top left area in terms of the keyboard when the screen is open. I think the hard drive is under there (Im not turning the laptop upside down for fear of HDD tilting in case thats the problem)

Basically, you know how when you put a Disc inside a DVD player, and the drive gives it a major SPIN and it makes a decently (and relatively common and safe like) noticeable booming like vibration/sound for about a second or less when its spinning?

Well if it was the DVD device, I'll wonder why its doing that anyway since I have no CD or DVD in the drive. But then I opened up the DVD drive and Im still getting the weird sounds on occasion. Which makes me wonder if the HDD is the issue.

Now theres no sound from the laptop, thank god, but Im still slightely concerned.

UPDATE: I think its the fan? I just looked on the underside and theres te bluetooth module there, so I dont think its the HDD.....Im very confused.

I don't like all these HD issues, and strange sounds problems, which appeared on forum recenty. I'm a future owner of G1. Please keep us posted.

If anything, it should be the fan... HDDs don't make loud bumpy noises. If the hard drive makes any noise, it'll be clicks.

It could be that your fan is a faulty one and it's possibly "dying". If it's really quite noticable, you should send it in and have it replaced - free of charge of course.

Well honestly, the laptop has been treating me incredibly well and I cant say there has been any disaster yet. I will ASSURE you this forum will know if my computer dies. I have no major reason to believe it will as of now, so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and relaly hope for the best..

I'll maike a topic in BIG BOLD LETTERS!!! hah

    As a reference:

    - HDDs should be a very low, faint humming noise with random ticks here and there.
    - ODDs vary across manufacturers, but the ASUS Samsung DVD burners I've used occasionally make "harmonic" noises if you close the tray without a disk in it.
    - Fans should be quite evident when they turn on (rush of air, whizzing, etc). If a fan is really dirty or going bad, it *might* make growling/scraping noises. These sorts of laptops typically have only one fan. Also, if the general temperature gets too high, it might cause additional wear on the fan and cause it to start making those sorts of noises.
