So...After three months of researching Asus laptops and the pros and cons of what I wanted to do with my life in the future while traveling...I went with the Asus g50vt-x5 from overstocked.com

    http://www.overstock.com/Electronic...re-2-DUO-Laptop-Computer/4105375/product.html

This has a 2.533ghz processor Inside--thus the 100 dollar increase over the other refurbished g50vt's we have been seeing for $700. I figured that boost in processing power was worth the extra hundred.

    Cost Breakdown:

    Original price: $810.00
2-Year Warranty with all accidental damage coverage within the USA: $110.00
Here was the kicker: 20% with Bing Cashback
    Total price: Ruffly $734.00

I feel like this is a pretty good price for a refurbished g50vt with a 2.53ghz processor...I also like the fact that the warranty has two years of accidental insurance.

I hope everyone here does not think I am stupid for doing this...So tell me...Do you think this was an OK decision?

I plan on going overseas, but coming back every 6 months or so...If something breaks, I can just bring it back with me to the USA, or ship it to my girlfriend to have her send it off to get fixed.

I would have easily went for the n81vp-d1...But I am worried about my laptop getting stolen easily when I travel...It is more manageable to take a $700 hit then a $1200 one.

The only really sucky part about this is I have to wait 3 months to get my check from Bing.com for the 20%.

I think the only thing that will make me maybe regret my decision is if the n81vp-d1 goes back in stock at zipzoomfly.com...If this happens, I might have to return this and purchase that...They were going for $950 dollars! Wow!

Has anyone heard if people are having an easy time with zipzoomfly getting their bing.com go through? I read on one forum that the total 20% was not coming through for that site?

My two cents to the Asus World...

    Adam

Right on dude, sounds like you got a pretty good deal! That laptop is plenty performance, and at that price, you're getting pretty good bang for your buck. Performance-wise, its going to be just a step under the G51 as far as graphics power goes, but it actually has a slightly better processor than the RX05...As long as the quality of the refurb is good, I'd say you made a pretty good choice, and Bing hooked you up!

    Crysis, CODWaW, maybe some WoW....

I know that this is not as good as the g51...But, I liked the price. I know it will not run them as good as the g51.

dude, that laptop seems perfect for you. Don't expect the highest settings on crysis but that laptop will definitely provide in all the other games.

You'll actually be able to play RTS games better than the G51VX-RX05, but high-end shooters not quite as well. I would hesitate to mark the G51 as absolutely better than what you have right now. "Marginally" would be a more accurate word.

There was a time when I was going to spend $1300 on a laptop...Then, I bought two new tires for my car yesterday...And I said to myself..."Oh crap, $112.00 is a lot of money that I just spent." And then I realized, That I was going to buy the equivalent of 12 sets on tires on a laptop...Then I was like...Wow...So I tried to stay a little cheaper.

    hehe :)

When I purchased my very first laptop, I also tried to stay cheapest but it ended up costing me more in the long term simply because I purchased a more expensive one that I should have just got in the first place. I think that if you can afford it, you should just get the best that you can.

The only thing I am not keen on with the laptop you got is the resolution and the 2 Years cover. The way I see it is in that time you are likely to be eying up something completely different anyway. In 2 years, you will have much better tech for either the same price or not much more.

    The GPU is good though.
