Ok let me start by saying that not all experiences will be like mine . So please don't get the idea that I'm bashing Asus, noe on ot the story.
Sometime in late Nov early Dec I purchased an Asus Z70VA from powernotebooks.com. I ordered it fully loaded and so cost me approximately US $2600. I'm indicating price not to brag but to explain why I feel the way I do. After my notebook arrived I immediately started getting it reconfigured for my preferences. Over the course of a few weeks I began to notice that the screen was exhibiting the reddish white ghosting issue that has been documented here as well as on other sites. I thouht at first I could ignore it but the little voice in my head starts talking about how this is not normal operation and should be corrected, I didn't listen right away as I was already very attached to my notebook and dreaded the thought that I could be without it for a few days. So I continued on, a few days later I hooked up my digital speaker system and went to try to enable S/PDIF. I met with a very disturbing failure so I sucked in my pride and called powernotebooks.com technical support after working with them over two days it was determined that due to the ghosting issue and the nonfunctional S/PDIF port. I needed to RMA it to the repair facility in California! So i went and sent the notebook in and have confirmed that they recieved it Friday Jan 20th at 8:56 am. I then gave the repair facility a followup call on Tuesday Jan 20th to get an update. I spoke with a support tech that informed as that hewas going to gt more info and call me back. Jan 20th came and went without a call back so I called them late Tuesday and was told that the factory in Cali couldn't fix the issue so it needs to be sent to the Manufacturer. At this point I've lost all confidence in this notebook and am seriously considering selling it a getting a different notebook altogether as the company I purchased it from only has a 15 day check it out period. Has anyone had this experience with this laptop before? I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of US $2600 and expect that for that price that my notebook be functional out of the box, is that unreasonable? The attitude I got from the sales rep that I purchased the notebokk through had a philosophy that it was man man and therefor imperfect, so I should just replace the bad parts and move on. I disagree.

Ok, well your bad experience honestly isn't with Asus, but the service you got - which is from your dealer. Powernotebooks is honestly a good company with good people..... but they're located in Nevada.... so if you're sending it to California for repairs - it's obviously some sub-contractor - which I don't like.
There was a problem which Asus finally got Samsung to find and fix with the red ghosting on the screens.... and with that Asus replaced any and all effected screens. So for this issue your dealers should have set up a direct RMA with Asus to replace the screen as they handled that particular issue.... Asus would have done it and done it quickly.
With your S/PDIF - yes that should work and if it went in for repair with the screen - it's something that should have been turned around rather quickly anyway............
I feel for you, but this is not Asus' fault and you just got a bad unit.... but they should be able to take care of it. -
Just because you spent 2600 doesnt mean that you cannot have an issue? it will get taken care of so why worry about it. You should have said something before the 15 days if you wanted to return it. Asus makes good hardware but its not perfect. I mean i spent over 45 grand for me bmw its been in the shop 3 times since i got it as long as the problem gets taken care of whats the big deal. price isnt really the fator in your situation cause the actually whitebook is a 800 dollar item. so thats whats broken its not a 2600 notebook just the specs you wanted. The z70v is a great machine give it a chance im sure when you get it back you will be very happy with it.

Ye sorry dude. This ghosting issue was a tought one. I should know. We prolly got the most of them back and replaced the screens without any help from asus. Its a very simple swap but requires availability of good screens. Not sure about your optical spdif problems. Had good confirmation that they work just fine with digital receivers. I think the main problem here is ghosting. If you contact asus directly they will take care of you but you should know there is a slight chance you c an get it back with ghosting (which is why we dont send whitebooks their way for repair). Going to your dealer for rma is the best way. Dealers have much better attention to detail. I think you should talkm to Donald (i think he is the ceo of pwernotebooks i may be getting confused). I believe chembook is their provider and provides the warranty for them. Not sure if pn does inhouse rma or not but i am sure Donald can help you here as this is a very well known issue.
Horrible Asus experience so far...need advice
