It's been suggested that I drop a quick note to let folks know I believe I may have figured out my problem with the hot AC adapter and VGA plug on the Eee 1005HA VGA when charging, which has been plaguing me for the last 8 months.

I discovered all this after looking over BatteryBar data during a couple of charging cycles the past few months, and thought it might be good info for others if interested.

Asus (in their infinite wisdom) seems to have a rapid charge protocol for the 1005HA's battery - which I never recall knowing about - that pulls AC current @ 33-35+ mAh when the battery charge is low. This seems to be the reason for the AC adapter getting so warm, and with that much power blazing into the AC plugin there must be some bleed over to other adjacent components making the VGA plug hot to the touch. This issue has persisted through two separate BIOS versions, including the most recent release.

As the battery charge goes up past 50%, the charge rate slowly decreases and the temp of the power adapter & VGA slowly both go down as well. If the starting battery charge is 70+% to begin, then the AC draw and temps both stay pretty low from the start.

Max possible output for the Asus' AC adapter is 40mAh to begin with so the high 35+ output is a good reason for the temp being high, and when the 1005's draw eventually gets below 20 then the temp is very reasonable. Hopefully my new 65W Innergie universal AC adapter will stay cooler - still waiting on UPS delivery.
