I'm extremely happy with my Asus Z70v ( 1.86ghz, 1GiG ram, Fujitsu MHT2080 80gig drive), but i'm worried about the disk reliability with temp, right now is 51°c, later i could get as high as 61!!!, is this safe??? no, i read the hardisk whitepaper and they recommend 60c as max. I tried using SpeedFan (great soft!!) and because of it the temp are as described (without it i got 64c). This is not gaming temp, is there something i can do?? plz help me

    What is the ambient temp?
The hard drive in my M6Ne (same casing as your Z70v) is usually 45-51 degrees... I have a 40gig 5400 RPM drive though.

Mine has never gone above 55 (Z70V, Seagate Momentus, 80gb 5400 rpm), but it gets there every once in a while if my room is hot and I'm playing games...it usually hovers around 50 though...

i've got a 60 GB 5400 RPM Samsung in mine. Avg temp in my house is around 22 C. My hard drive under regular/idle use is usually at 45-51C. When I start to play mp3's or watch a movie, that gets much closer to 55-56 C.

mmm seems abit high, mine are usual between 45-55. But then maybe the high ambient temps are making it difficult to decipate heat build up. You could try a laptop cooler. They can help reduce heat by a few degrees, I have the coolermaster and antec ones which did a good job of keeping my lappies a bit cooler during the last hot summer in Aust.

The Momentus 5400rpm 100GB in my W3A has spent much of the past two months at or above 55C, in ambient temperatures of 30 to 35C. So far, there have been no ill effects.

However, now that the 120GB HDDs are available, the present HDD may soon be relegated to a backup task.
