well - ive decided that since ive had a few problems - id like to try the system restore (minus using the driver disc) - get a nice clean install of vista - start fresh

how the heck do i do it? i popped in the recovery dvd and nothing happens - i tried to peruse the contents of the dvd and dont see any .exe files at all

i also tried to restart the computer with the dvd inserted - shut down completely, and started back up - still nothing

is there something special i need to do to get the recovery dvd to work?

any help would be greatly appreciated...

restart, keep tapping "Esc" during the fire logo, and then it will let you select where to boot from. Select DVD drive, it should be the 2nd option. Now just let it do its thing and when it asks for the driver CD just hold down your power button and then turn it right back on and vista will start up. after a few more minutes of vista initializing itself you'll have a nice, clean install.

Then install drivers and any apps that you need.

Also, tap ESC only once. If you tap it twice the first will bring up the boot menu, and the subsequent ones may cancel it.

Another method is to get inside BIOS and select the ODD as the 1st boot device.

excellent - thanks for the tips guys

last nite i did the restore - got me a CLEAN copy of vista (which is awesome) - i downloaded and installed a few drivers last nite but by the time i installed my av, wifi+bt, and audio drivers - it was 2am - lol

oh well - ill continue tonite after work - im so psyched though - now i see why you guys recommend doing this straight away out of the box - the thing booted up in literally a third of the time

im hoping that getting rid of all of that bloatware will clear up some of the problems ive been having (including not being able to run the sims 2 - lol)
