I decided that I really like everything about the V6, except for the damn video card. Does anybody know of plans to put an x1600 or something equivalent in there?
-
I'm guessing it's too thin to accomodate - that's a guess of course.
-
Seems like it, the V6 series was never meant to be a gaming laptop, more business oriented.
-
A widescreen would be sweet with the V6 series too. I think I read a while ago that ASUS does have plans to update the V6 with WSXGA? Anyone know if this is true?
-
The V1j perhaps?
No info on the true specs of it though... -
-
That would be a hot seller for ASUS if they release that. I don't see why they wouldn't in the near future though... I hope.

I thought the V6J was the refresh?
-
From what I understand, the V1J is going to be a widescreen version of the V6. The V1J will have 15.4" WSXGA+ (non-glossy), Core Duo (possibly Merom), ATI X1600, integrated video camera, weighs about 6 pounds. There are some V1J pics scattered here in the Asus forum.

*goes to look for pics*

It might be just me, but from the photos of the V1J I've seen.. it doesn't resemble the V6 series at all.. I personally think it doesn't look too good. But then again.. I haven't really seen high quality pics of the different angles of the V1J. I'm not about integrated webcams also. I don't like how it kinda sticks out of the lid and I guess it would make me a bit paranoid to have a cam pointing at me everytime I'm using my notebook.

I thought the Lamborghini will be the next V6 refresh?
I notice many Asus laptops have only one HeatSink Fan for both GPU & CPU. Usually 2 heatpipes channel to this HSF. If Asus seperated the cooling with 2 HSF, one for the GPU and one for the CPU then I think it could easily handle the thermals of much more powerful GPUs. A bit like the Dell XPS gaming machines where they seperate the two most heat producing components. It will consume more space but a new v6 chasis is needed... (I think about time too). They have used the chasis for a v. long time now. -
The point of the V series it a bussiness notebook thats super thin like a thinkpad T series. the chasis is awsome and its been in use for only like 1 year.

I'm still going to get a V6VA I think, should be great based on the comments I've heard.
[OT] I'm thinking that the 4200rpm drive might be too slow, I'm used to 7200rpm drives. Would a 5400rpm drive add a decent amount of performance, or would it make a difference to go with a 7200 instead of a 5400? I'm also hoping that heat won't be too big of an issue.. -

Mine are all clean. It bugs me when stuff gets in them, but a can of air will clean that all right out. I think the design looks good, but I was worried at first stuff would get stuck, permanently.
How about a V6 refresh?
