I found this in our today newspaper (Indonesia):

How is this A6JA pricing compared to America/Canada?? I am thinking of buying A6JA locally or have my cousin in Canada buy A8JM for me since he will be coming in 3 weeks time.
I saw this same ad last week & I searched all stores for A6JA and found only one store with one stock. Every store advised me to hold until end of last week because by next Wednesday, a new shuipment will arrive including A8J series (not sure which model)

A6Ja di Kanada itu hampir 100 dollar lebih murah... Kanada dollar sekarang kuat.

    $1499 USD = approx. $1670 CDN

    MSRP in Canada: $1600 CDN.

So I will say you have a good deal if you buy it from Canada. Beware of taxes and customs though.

that a6j price is cheaper than in singapore at the moment,
but that's because the S$ has been strong the past few days, trading at 1.5 per 1 US$.

If you ask me, it's not like they're giving it away and you're guarenteed to have taxes/duties on top of shipping..... and shipping alone is going to be more than the difference..... If you're looking for someone to tell you that you'd be crazy to import it, I certainly will. Usually people who are looking for a deal don't really have the extra money to blow (that's why they're looking for a deal!) and they're usually the ones who get taken (by their own ignorance) and end up paying an arm and leg for something from half way around the world when they could have picked it up from the guy down the street...... but they were convinced the guy down the street was trying to rip them off...... see where I'm going here?

I won't buy it elsewhere if my cousin is not so happen to come to Indonesia in 3 weeks time. YOur warning about taxation is really a good input for me.
I thought if my cousin carries it with him w/o the box that I don't need anyway, he won't pay any tax on his arrival. It is very common nowadays that people travels with laptop & I believe customs won't check. Any frequent traveller can confirm me ??? THanks alot / terima kasih banyak.

International flights are tricky.... If he doesn't claim it and they find it and question it..... he'll be paying the tax for it and may get in trouble for lying about it..... I don't know how things work in Indonesia, but we've all heard stories and I don't think trying to sneak it in is the best course of action...... unless he got it for a steal.... (or stole it even)... seriously, it's not worth the time and potential risk because it's basically the same price....

The only time its worth importing electronics is if you need want a model that isnt in your country and their are no others like it. which asus has plenty. but you never save money importing.

Like Justin said, I'll have to change my mind and say that it's not worth importing an expensive item because it is risky and the tariffs placed on the item.

I do however encourage you to buy it from Canada if you can somehow avoid the airport security to ask you for the receipt indicating your purchase.... which is probably unlikely. You'll need the receipt for the global warranty.

The prices of electronics here in Canada and there in Indonesia is not much different anyways, just pay the difference to avoid the risk.

Thank for all your valuable info.
I will just buy it Indonesia.
However, I will wait for another week to see which model of A8 that comes & its price, if they don't carry A8ja or A8JM or if the price is more than A6ja, I will just buy A6ja.
Once again, thanks for sharing yr experiences.

hey.. banyak orang Indo juga disini :)

I'm trying to decide whether to buy A8Jm / Z96j here in Canada or in Indo coz I'm moving back to Indo soon...... but looks like I'll be buying it here. Just hope that ASUS laptops are so well built I won't need the global warranty at all :)

OT: jsis and dysfunct - u guys in Canada too? whereabouts?

All the ensemble model come with at least 1 year global warranty. It is better than without any warranty. A8Jm will be soon to arrive in Canada.
