Newbie here as the name implies. How can I remove the swappable bay of W3J? It seems that i'm going to break the optical drive because i'm already using brute force and i can't still remove the optical drive. Can you please provide me step by step instructions on how to remove the optical drive safely. Thanks in advance.

There should be a latch switch at the bottom, right beside the hard drive cover, you pull and hold on that, then carefully pull the optical drive out.

that is what i have been doing but nothing has happened so far. i am just pulling the optical drive while it is close by using the latch. I dont have to push the latch and pull it right? is it really hard to remove the optical drive? i am a bit afraid on pushing things too much because i might break the optical drive.

this is a random question, what would the effects be of doing this while the computer is on?

If im traveling, need the CD-Drive, but want then to switch back to extra battery, is it as easy as just swaping them in and out?

    thanks

I've switched between the optical drive and a second HD without issue.

As long as you use the "safely remove hardware icon" you can swap as much as you like between HDD, DVD.

You do noy have to use the icon when removing battery of course, but if you do not use the "safely remove hardware icon" when you go to slot the DVD of HDD back in it will not be recognised until you reboot.

Just to note, I am pulling on the module lock while I try to pull it out. How much force is needed to pull it out, and is there maybe a screw?

At first I did not have any idea why I could not take the modular dvd drive out. I have read all of the instructions/opinions/answers in this forum, but still not succeeded to pull it out. But maybe the main reason is because at that time my W3J was still very new, and I was too afraid to break it.

    So here's how:

    1. Turn the notebook upside down, so the bottom part faces up. Carefully ;).
    2. Slide the lock to open position and hold it at that position.
    3. Press the module handle (the part with CD/DVD letters) and pull the module out slowly while still holding the lock in open position.

Just like that.. in my case, while doing step 3, I also press the handle a bit to the left to make it easier to release the drive.

    Hope that helps.
