A company is offering an upgrade to the W3J to 2GB but is still giving the ASUS warranty? I thought this voided that?
-
They cannot. If they switch the memory they may warranty the laptop themselves but the asus warranty will be nullified.
-
Thats what I thought but they have a checkbox you must use to say that they do not hold the warranty and that all issues go through the manufacturer!

some places simply don't understand Asus' warranty and then others don't understand that they should preface the voiding of the warranty if they install the extra ram that you're checking off....
-
Yea, i was wondering the same thing.
However, isnt it possible to add your own ram and not void the warrenty?
*edit* I guess not. lol (saw some of the recent posts) -
Am I readng this wrong then?

that's gentechpc... they don't fully understand an ASUS product?
i thought they were very trustworthy and on top of their sales...? -
If this is not so then people should know that this company is selling something they cannot...an extended warranty on a voided warranty?? -
I actually just got off of the phone with Gentech and he said that it doesn't void the Asus warranty because they're only adding a stick, and you would just remove the extra stick when sending to Asus if necessary.
I'm thinking that maybe the original W3J had 2 512 sticks, which would mean you woudld have to completely remove the RAM while the new "refresh" model might just have 1 1024 stick allowing someone to just add a stick. -
That sounds about right but I wish we could just get an answer from ASUS themselves -
If you send back your notebook for repair and they found out the problem is your RAM not their notebook they will just let you know that you will have to replace yur RAM, but it doesn't mean it'll void the warranty. the guy from Asus even ask me : hey Ken, have you got the 2GB sitck yet? I heard it's out there. -

Many retail shops have a similar policy when it comes to being able to return a laptop after the box has been opened. This is because they cannot return a laptop to the manufacturer if the seal has been broken (unless the laptop is defective).
I imagine Asus has a similar policy around the warranty. If a customer opens the laptop themselves, probably the warranty is a little more forgiving than if a retailer opens it. -

How can they upgrade memory without void
