So I just bought a brand new W3J Merom from MilestonePC. I've been extremely happy with it so far .. However, just a few minutes ago I noticed a bright teal pixel in the middle of my screen :(

Now I know ASUS has the Zero Bright Dot Guarantee, so I'll probably just end up replacing it.

So I'm wondering, how common are dead pixels exactly ?? I'm only asking because this is my third laptop (2 Acers and 1 ASUS) in about 4 months, and I keep getting dead pixels all the time. Am I just unlucky ?

    Cheers !

I purchased a V6Va from Newegg one week ago. Its IPS screen is perfect. My previous laptop is a Fujitsu P7010 with 1 bright dot in the center of the screen. I think the Zero Bright Dot policy is one the reasons for me to choose ASUS.

All of the new systems have the ZBD warranty and that means they're actually guarneteed from the lcd maker to be "zero defect" panels..... It does cost Asus more and that's passed on, but bad pixels on screens Asus usually uses is are almost non-existant to begin with..... in over five and half years, I think we've replaced a handful of panels for ANY lcd defect.... but, even if you do get one, the panel will be replaced.... but it's very rare.

I finally received my W3j today and I'm afraid i have a dead pixel :( It's really hard to see it but i'm very picky and i found it. I have never seen dead/stuck pixel before but what else can it be??
I used dead pixel buddy to inspect my LCD and that's how I found it

how do i know if i have a dead or bright pixel?
Is it possible that only half of the pixel is bright/dead (that's how it looks - i think)?
How does the asus 30ZDB works? Do they cover shipping charges, how long does it take to get it fixed etc.

The following entry at wikipedia may be of interest.

Subpixel errors (bright or dead) are certainly possible.

Be aware that the ZBD only covers bright (or hot) pixel defects, that is pixels that are permanently on.

I'm aware of that but honestly i'm not sure if it is dead or hot
It's not really that big of a deal cause it's in the lower right corner... but since Asus offers this 30ZDB policy i don't know what to do :(
I'm leaving for couple weeks after thanksgiving and I want to have my "new baby" with me ...I'm afraid that Asus may not fix it by that time.

Dead pixels are rare, and barely noticeable, unless there is a large bunch of them grouped together, which is VERY VERY VERY VERY unlikely.

yeah I've gone through 6 notebooks in the last year and only come across 1 myself. Not major at all. I've got a dead (black) pixel on my 17" acer LCD and i have to really look for it. Not a big deal unless its smack bang in the middle of the screen and bright green/red/blue.

^ Go for it! I tried this on my PSP with no luck. Although you can develope more "stuck" pixels from running programs like this, it is extremly rare. Let the program run overnight or something. From what I have heard it usually takes 12 hours or so to fix the problem.

Stuck pixel fixers work, - See this post for details on a couple of things to try. You can also ask about the ZBD warranty, or take it back to the ASUS Tech Centre in Markham. I did that, and after a bunch of false starts chronicaled in the Z96J Owner's Lounge I finally got a good unit that doesn't flicker and has 0 bright or dead pixels.

I went through 3 different screens though all with dead pixels, some with 3+, before I got to a clean one. So it is a lot more common than people think - either that or the ASUS Tech Center tried to stick me with known defectives. However, my first screen was straight from MileStone and definitely did have a dead one.

Try the fixes mentioned in the post above, make sure to just do it on that area of the screen if you can. Then talk to MileStone, then talk to ASUS Tech Centre if you need to.

P.S. As well as elipilepsy-videos you can also try the damp clothe method - look up on the web for more info though b4 you do, it's been months since I checked. But I did hear back then some ppl claiming it fixed hot and stuck pixels with only a few seconds of work as long as you are careful.

Few minutes ago I called Asus tech hotline and asked about 30ZBD policy (more details) and they told me that they don't offer any ZBD guarantees on W3jp ??
Can anyone tell me what's going on???

Two years ago, when I first purchased my W3V, it had a stuck pixel. Then, my carrying bag (the one the comes with the W3V) strap broke, my notebook fell and my screen was damaged. It was still under warranty so I had the screen replaced. My new screen has no stuck or dead pixels.

Personally, on my F3Ja, a subpixel dead appeared 15 days / 1 month after receiving the laptop. Actually, it's one green subpixel which never lights, quite on the bottom left.
On a previous laptop (a Dell Inspiron 6000), I get the same : also a green subpixel always off, but on the right of the screen this time.

I've tried a lot of tools supposed able to reactivate dead pixel, but none of them worked...

And on my Desktop's screen, all's right.

I have 1 dead sub-pixel on my desktop LCD, about .5 cm from the left edge. It was not there when I bought it, and I believe it may be the result of getting poked when being moved.

My Z33's screen is perfect, as was the 1600x1200 screen on the A31p I got for my sister (I miss that screen...).

I've never run any of the 'find bad pixel' programs though. I'm happy with my screens, so why bother...
