I am interested in purchasing an Asus, but how do they hold their value? Is there a viable resale market? I usually keep a laptop for about a year, then sell it. Thanks.

Zoner - you really picked the best question to ask in your first post on the forum... so, welcome!

It's a computer and if you want anything that will make a car look like a great investment... buy a computer. You can ebay anything, but I wouldn't look at it as something to resell down the road. The most money will come from a friend or family member who's gotten a chance to see you use it over a period of time and becomes impressed with it. They'll give you a good chunk of money, but otherwise, keep in mind that any system you get from Asus really has a 2-3 year lifespan in terms of actually seeming "cutting edge" and you'll be able to use it till you actually get board with it............... then you could give it or sell it to someone else.

Well, based upon my experience in selling my old Sony/Toshiba's to family members, and selling my last laptop on e bay, I usually lose about $100.00 a month off the purchase price. My current laptop is an Inspiron 9300, I purchased it back in May, 2005, and paid about $1,500 for it. I think I can sell it for about $900 to $1,000 on ebay. Any comparable experience with Asus?

I dont think that ASUS laptops sell that high on Ebay, because relatively they are quite new to the laptop market as in making their own brand.

Maybe in a couple of years, you will probably get more bang for your buck back....

The resell value isn't high like a ThinkPad, but I'd say above average.

I always think to sell a used parts, a low value is come out. If we can keep it look like new and excellent condition, it would be keep it high, oh~~ sorry, i just imagine to sell a car!!

I guess that depends on who are you going to sell it to, savvy users look into MB chipset, Maker, Graphics card, LCD resolution. non-savvy users look into the design and size of the laptop.
