Hello:
I just got the notebook used. I am going to dual boot it with linux. I am trying to disable Secure Boot for Linux installation.
In Bios, I see this
Security
I/O Interface Security
System Mode State User
Secure Boot State Enabled
Secure Boot Control [Enabled]
Key Management
Do I change Secure Boot State to Disabled?
It is black (not blue) and I cannot change it.
The Bios version is 219 and seems to be current.
Can someone please tell me how to disable the thing.
Thank you.

The same may apply to your model, see if CSM is enabled. -
Thank you for getting back.
I read the link and checked my computer. CSM is disabled. -
I could disable 'Secure Boot Control'. That automatically disabled 'Secure Boot State'. Now the status is
Secure Boot State ----- Disabled
Secure Boot Control ----- Disabled
I am hoping that disables 'Secure Boot'.
It will be nice if someone who knows can confirm it.
I will update this if and when I learn this is not the case later. -

That should be it disabled as far as I recall.

Disable Secure Boot State, and then Boot Control.
Verify if there's also an UEFI to Legacy option. -

As long as both show "Disabled," your Secure Boot is off. One way to verify is that you should see the "Secure Boot is not configured properly" watermark in Windows 8(.1), unless you have the Windows update that disables that notification. -

Do you still have any trouble setting these options?

Since I now have both Secure Boot State and Control as 'Disabled' and see no notification, I will mark it Solved. If I later learn that this is not the case, I will reopen the thread.
Thanks everyone. -
But why would you want to disable Secure Boot for Linux installation? I think most Linux distros support it.
"CSM" is an acronym for "Compatibility Standard Module", which in itself is another term for Legacy BIOS.
However, since Windows 8 comes almost exclusively installed in EFI mode ( you can make sure of this first however),
you must install Linux in EFI mode too, as it is described in the following link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI#Installing_Ubuntu_in_EFI_mode
So, you would not want to enable CSM mode in your BIOS. -

I'veheard that getting it to dual boot can be an issue but iI would imagine it depends what distro you are using.

Setting up a dual boot shouldn't be an issue, per se, but I believe there's a particular method or two to it so that the GRUB bootloader displays both operating systems.
How do I disable Secure Boot in UX31A with Windows8?
